- Leopards are currently placed sixth in the standings
- Police have not lost a single match in 2024
- The two sides will play each other twice within two weeks
AFC Leopards will look to improve their bid for a top five finish in the FKF Premier League this season, when they take on Police FC in Dandora in midweek. Leopards are currently placed sixth on the log, but a victory against Police will push them as high as fourth.
Captain Clifton Miheso says the players are optimistic they can down Police, who have not lost a single match this year.
“Police FC is a strong team with a solid track record. They have a very organized style of football, and we know they will pose a challenge. However, we are prepared and confident in our abilities to execute our plan effectively. We approach every match with determination and a winning mindset,” Miheso told AFC Leopards’ official website, speaking ahead of the game.
He added “The match is crucial for us to continue our momentum in the league. We are aiming for nothing less than a positive result. We have prepared well and will look to execute our game plan effectively on the field.”
Police have not lost since the turn of the year when Salim Babu took charge, and are confident of raking another win against AFC. They have won all their last five matches and are the most in-form team this season.
Babu says it will be tough against AFC
Police FC players line up before a past match
Head coach Salim Babu says they know it will be a tough match against Ingwe, but are ready to give a good account of themselves.
“We know it will be tough but we are ready. We have picked quite a good amount of confidence and every player is ready,” noted the coach.
Meanwhile, Tusker FC will hope Police lose, and they win, when they take on City Stars at the Police Sacco Stadium. The brewers are two points behind Police, and victory will be key for them in their top two push.
The two sides meet over the weekend, but both will want to win.
Police and AFC will be playing in a precursor as they will meet again in two weeks time, in the semi-finals of the FKF MozzartBet Cup.
FKF Premier League relegation battle intensifies
Shabana new coach Sammy Omollo meeting with the team
Meanwhile, the battle for survival from relegation in the FKF Premier League intensifies in midweek. Muhoroni Youth will be at home, at the Muhoroni Stadium, facing Bandari FC, in a match that will be massively crucial for the latter.
Muhoroni are second from bottom with 27 points and crucially need a win to boost their survival hopes. A win takes them to 30 points and potentially off the red zone, and will give their all to try milk out maximum points.
Bandari are seeking to ensure they don’t leave the top five bracket. Pressure has been circling around their heads having not won any of their last five matches with two losses and three draws.
Another massive relegation fight will be at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homabay when Shabana FC host FC Talanta. Talanta are 14th with 30 points while resurgent Shabana are two points below. Tore Bobe had been on a good run of three successive wins before last weekend’s narrow defeat to leaders Gor Mahia.
Sammy Omollo’s men are keen to pick a point as it will most certainly put them closer to safety. Victory takes them to 31 points, swapping places with Talanta.
Another relegation fighting side, Sofapaka, will meanwhile be at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, taking on Posta Rangers, in another match with crucial importance. A win takes them to 31 points and definitely out of the red zone.
