Sun’s Sharpshooter Grayson Allen Goes Down With Ankle Injury

Phoenix player Grayson Allen recently had an injury, a sprained right ankle during his team’s game 2 playoff match against the Minnesota Timberwolves, in the third quarter.

It was the same ankle that was sprained in the first game and was unable to leave the court under his power and never returned to the game.

The 28-year-old began his career journey in Jackson, Florida where he played in his high school, Providence School and earned a coveted McDonald’s All-American selection, before joining Duke University.

He played for the Blue Devils for four seasons. At the university, he was instrumental in the 2015 NCAA Championship run and he finished his career ranking 12th on the school’s all-time scoring list.

He was drafted by the Utah Jazz in the 2018 NBA draft with the 21st overall pick and after one season, he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies for two seasons, then to the Milwaukee Bucks. In 2023, he was traded to the Phoenix Suns where he has emerged as a key player. Recently, his performance earned him a lucrative four-year $70 million contract extension with the team.

Allen was born on October 8, 1995, in Jacksonville, Florida to Sherry and William Allen. He has a sibling, Tonan Ferrell. He attended Providence School in Jacksonville, Florida where he blossomed as a basketball player, leading his team to s state championship.

He then enrolled at Duke University and in his freshman year, he was recognized on the ACC All-Academic Team, meaning he balanced his academics and basketball career. He met his wife Morgan Reid at the University.

His wife was a standout athlete who played for Duke Women’s soccer team.

Unfortunately, his play style did not match with their system and he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies for two seasons, to the Milwaukee Bucks for two more seasons and then to the Phoenix Suns where he is currently playing.
