We are approaching the end of the 2023-24 season and the Premier League golden boot race has really heated up. As usual, there are some familiar names at the top of the list such as Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah. However, there are other names which no one expected would be at the top such as Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.

Palmer has been a standout performer for the Blues this season and his impressive goalscoring has seen him become one of the favourites to win the Golden Boot this season. The midfielder is currently the leading goalscorer in the English Premier League with 20 goals alongside former teammate at Manchester City Erling Haaland, who has not been at his best for the past few matches.

Cole Palmer

When Palmer joined Chelsea at the start of this season, he had never scored a league goal. However, he has left many stunned with his performance, especially in the past four matches as he has scored a total of ten league goals. The 21-year-old grabbed a hat-trick at the start of this month as Chelsea secured a last-gasp win over old rivals Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

After failing to score against Sheffield United, Palmer produced a masterclass as Chelsea hosted Everton, scoring four goals. The England international needed just 29 minutes to complete his hat-trick before finding the back of the net for the fourth time against the Toffees  shortly after the hour mark. Chelsea put six goals past Everton, with the other goalscorers being Nicolas Jackson and academy graduate Alfie Gilchrist.

Palmer’s heroic goalscoring on Monday night saw him leapfrog Dominic Solanke, Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak and Ollie Watkins in the Premier League Golden Boot race.

How The Premier League Golden Boot Race Looks Like

As mentioned earlier in this article, Cole Palmer and Haaland are the leading goalscorers in the Premier League this season with 20 goals each.

The two are followed by Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins who has managed one goal fewer than them. His 19 goals are the joint-most ever in a Premier League campaign by an Aston Villa player since Christian Benteke during the 2012-13 season.

Three-time Golden Boot winner Mohamed Salah is slightly behind with 17 goals, which to be honest, is quite impressive considering he has struggled with injuries this campaign. The other players who have also scored 17 goals are Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke and Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak.

So as things get interesting with the season drawing close to an end, here is how the Premier League golden boot race looks like:

1. Cole Palmer (Chelsea) – 20

2. Erling Haaland (Manchester City) – 20

3. Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa)- 19

4. Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) – 17

Can Cole Palmer Win The Golden Boot?

Golden Boot

Cole Palmer suddenly topping the Premier League Golden Boot race is a huge blow to the likes of Haaland, Salah, Watkins and Solanke.

The Chelsea man is in lethal form, and to be honest, it’s only last season’s winner Haaland who could stop him from winning the Golden Boot. Whereas Chelsea are struggling in the league, City are aiming for the title and currently top the table. Haaland is clearly playing alongside quality players unlike Palmer who has been Chelsea’s star this season.

But still, Haaland might have to put on his goalscoring shoes if he is to win the Golden Boot in place of Palmer. The Norwegian has only scored twice in the last eight matches for Manchester City and Norway.
