Blake Griffin, a former Clippers player has announced his retirement after a 14-year career that included several accolades. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2009 NBA draft with the first overall pick.

Born in Oklahoma, his father played basketball and he became passionate about the game at an early age. He played college basketball at Oklahoma Christian School where he won four state titles under the coaching of his father.

Griffin then joined the University of Oklahoma and as a sophomore, he led the Sooners to a deep run in the NCAA tournament and won several awards including Oscar Robertson Trophy and Adolph Rupp Award.

In 2009, he declared for the NBA draft and fortunately, je was selected by the Los Angeles Clippers with the first overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft though injuries hampered his performance in the first seasons.

He was then traded to the Detroit Pistons, briefly joining the Brooklyn Nets before signing with the Boston Celtic in 2022. However, he did not secure an NBA championship but leaves behind a legacy of talent.

The former player was born on March 16 1989 in Oklahoma, to his father Tom and mother Gail. His father played college basketball at Northwestern Oklahoma State University and coached Blake and his elder brother throughout high school, winning two state championships. His mother homeschooled her sons until their teenage years.

He played college basketball at Oklahoma Christian School where he won four state titles under the coaching of his father, then attended the University of Oklahoma where he played for the Sooners’ basketball team. 

He then decided to forego his remaining college eligibility and enter the NBA draft, and was selected by the Los Angeles Clippers with the first overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft. Since then, he has played for several NBA teams till his recent announcement of retiring from playing.

Blake was previously engaged to Brynn Cameron with whom they have two children but never tied the knot. He has, however, been linked to a few partners since then but not married.

He was sued by his former partner Brynn Cameron for breach of contract regarding the financial support of their children.

After retirement, he wants to prioritize his children and find a partner who suits his interests. Blake has previously appeared in commercials and voice acting which could open doors for further involvement in entertainment.

Griffin announces his retirement

Griffin announced his retirement on 16th April 2024 in his personal social media accounts. His statement expressed his gratitude for his career thanking his family, coaches, teammates and even the haters who motivated him.

His 14-year career has been marked successful with several individual awards and has left a legacy in the basketball world.
