Esteghlal FC captain and goalkeeper Hosseini Hosseini was penalised for his approach towards a female fan during a league match. The player allegedly hugged the lady without a hijab.
The lady’s hijab slipped off as she was evading the security, prompting her to approach the pitch. The security was after the lady and when Hosseini saw that, he asked them to step back as she was not a threat.
He embraced her and tapped her shoulder, an act that is considered wrong since it defies Islamic law concerning different genders. The security intervened again and this time, they walked away with the goalkeeper.
His fans were angry and hurled objects at the security personnel as they applauded him and the fans on seeing them exit the pitch. They were angry at the security who remained on the field after taking Hosseini away.
Following the goalkeeper’s exit, his teammates intervened and one of them removed his shirt, and offered it to the female fan in question for her to cover her head. The Iranian football federation moved on and penalized Hosseini citing his action as unprofessional and in violation of existing regulations.

Hossein Hosseini biography
Hossein Hosseini is an Iranian footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Esteghlal FC, a prominent football in Iran that competes in the Persian Gulf Pro League. He also played for the Iran national team also known as Team Melli.
The 31-year-old was called up to the national training camp in 2017 but was not included in the final squad. He made his official debut as a substitute in 2018 and in 2022, he was called up again for matches against South Korea and Lebanon.
In his youth career, he also played for the Iran youth team in the U17 and U20 levels.
Hossein Hosseini’s career journey
He began his career journey with Bargh Shiraz and made just two league appearances in two seasons. In 2012, he joined Esteghlal where he signed a three-year contract. Initially, he got a call from his childhood club Persepolis with a huge offer but he declined it.

He made his debut for Esteghlal in a friendly match against Dynamo Kyiv in which he conceded a goal as his team beat their opponent in a 2-1 win. His first competitive appearance for the club was in the Hazfi Cup against Caspian Qazvin.
He then joined Lalavan to complete his mandatory service and made his debut in Iran Pro League against Rah Ahan, then returned to Esteghlal as a backup for Mehdi Rahmati who was sidelined due to injury and he had an opportunity to start up, finishing the season with 8 matches.
Internationally, he represented Iran U17 at the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Nigeria and also represented Iran U20. He was called to join Iran’s training camp but never made it to the final squad.

In 2023, he was named in Iran’s preliminary squad for the 2018 World Cup but never made it. Hosseini was part of the 2022 FIFA World Cup squad as a substitute.
