Alisson Becker is a professional Brazilian footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for English Premier League club Liverpool and has declared his intention on remaining with the team till his contract expires in 2027.

There were speculations that he might leave the club after listing his house on sale, which he purchased last year. He signed a new contract in 2021, that extended his spell in Liverpool until 2027. Last summer, there were links to a highly lucrative move to Saudi Arabia but he remained with the club.

The goalkeeper has been in recovery from a hamstring injury and made his comeback  for a Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace. He is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the football world and has won several awards as well as making it to the FIFA FIFPro WorldII on two occasions.

While Liverpool is looking forward to new management under Richard Hughes, Becker has proved of keeping his place as a first choice.

He joined internacional’s academy at the tender age of 10, progressed through the ranks and made his senior debut serving as a backup. He had limited impressive appearances and became a key player, helping the club win four consecutive Campeonato Gaucho titles.

Becker then signed with Italian club Roma in 2016 where he established himself as their starting goalkeeper and played a crucial role in their journey to the UEFA Champions League semi finals.

Two years later, he had a record-breaking transfer at Liverpool and played a transformative role in their defence. The 31-year-old won the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League and in the following year, he secured a Premier League title, earning the Premier League Golden Glove for most clean sheets.

Internationally, he represents the Brazil national team and is the number one undisputed goalkeeper for the team. He won the 2019 Copa America and was named the tournament’s best goalkeeper, having represented them in two FIFA World Cups in 2018 and 2022.

Becker’s injury setbacks

This far, Becker has had a couple of injury setbacks that impacted Liverpool in the past, the recent one being a hamstring injury that occurred during training in February this year. However, he has made a comeback and appeared for the Sunday match against Crystal palace.

The injuries have had an impact at the club as he missed crucial Premier League matches during a tight title race with Arsenal and Manchester City.

His absence forced Jurgen Klopp to rely on backup goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher who performed quite well but Becker’s absence was a blow as he is considered a world-class player who brings experience and leadership to the defense of the club.

Alisson is not leaving Liverpool

Well, there have been speculations that Alisson is leaving Liverpool but he clarified that he is there to stay.  Due to his recent hamstring injury, backup goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher performed exceptionally well and this raised questions if the club might consider him a capable long-term replacement.

There is a house that he bought in Cheshire last year and it was recently listed for sale, a matter that also creates suspense that he might be leaving this summer, linking him to his former club Internacional in Brazil though his agent dismissed the claims.

Similarly, there were also reports of interest from a Saudi Arabian club but Liverpool made it clear they wouldn’t entertain any offers. In 2021, Becker had a contract extension with Liverpool for six years, meaning it keeps him at the club until 2027.

This extension demonstrated the club’s commitment to securing him as their long-term starting goalkeeper, recognizing his immense value to the team.
