1. Fury Comes From A Family With History In Boxing

To start with, Tyson Fury is not the first person to engage in boxing in his family. Boxing runs in his blood as his father, John Fury, was also a boxer and bare-knuckle fighter. The Gypsy King’s half-brother Tommy Fury, born on May 7, 1999, is also a professional boxer but took time off from his career in 2019 to star in a dating game show.

2. He Was Named After Mike Tyson

Tyson Fury was born on 12 August 1988, prematurely and struggled to stay alive. After the doctor told Fury’s father he was going to make it, he decided to name him after Mike Tyson, who was the family’s idol. Tyson, who is a prominent figure in the boxing world, was at the time the reigning world champion. The Gypsy King followed in Iron Mike’s path to become a heavyweight champion himself.

3. Fury Has Never Lost A World Title Fight

Tyson Fury has proved to be a menace in the ring by defeating several top fighters. Since turning pro in 2008, the Briton is yet to lose a world title match. He is unbeaten in the ring with his current record being 34-0-1. He has won 24 of his fights via knockout and the only person who came close to stopping him was Deontay Wilder, who earned a draw against him in December 2018. He would defeat the American in their next two meetings in 2020 and 2021.

Fury will next face Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk in an undisputed heavyweight championship fight in May, the first such contest of the four-belt era.

4. Fury Has Battled Addiction, Weight Again And Depression

Tyson Fury’s journey to the top has not been an easy one. After being crowned the mythical heavyweight champion of the world following his victory over Wladimir Klitschko, things went south for the Briton. He was declared mentally unfit for the rematch after testing positive for cocaine, hence losing his belts. On top of that, he was stripped of his boxing licence.

What followed was Fury fighting for his own life. During an interview with Rolling Stone, he declared that he didn’t want to live anymore.

“I just don’t want to live anymore, if you know what I’m saying. I’ve had total enough of it.  I just hope someone kills me before I kill myself. They’ve forced me to the breaking edge.” Tyson Fury said, as per The 42.

Remarkably, Fury pulled himself together and got his life in order then returned to the ring. From then, he has kept his head high and inspired many athletes who feel like giving up.

5. 6. Fury Is A Family Man

Just like many other athletes, Fury has a life outside boxing. The heavyweight champion is a devoted husband and a father as well. His met with his wife, Paris, when they were still teenagers and have since stayed together. They are blessed with seven children: four sons and three daughters. All his sons have the first name Prince. He named his first son after his favourite British boxer Prince Naseem.
