On Sunday, March 17, Manchester United stunned Liverpool at Old Trafford during the Man Utd vs Liverpool game to progress to the semi-finals of FA Cup.
Liverpool’s dream of winning a quadruple in Jurgen Klopp‘s last season at the club was ended by a determined Manchester United side who won the thrilling encounter 4-3 in extra-time.
The Red Devils took the lead inside ten minutes, thanks to Scott McTominay’s finish from close range after pouncing on a rebound. Alexis Mac Allister equalized for the visitors in the 44th minute and then Mohamed Salah scored shortly afterwards to turn the game around in the first period.

Despite Liverpool dominating the vast part of the second half, Manchester United refused to give up. Jurgen Klopp’s side were minutes away from winning the match but Antony’s 87th minute equalizer saw the game progress to extra time. Harvey Elliot thought he had won it for Liverpool when he scored in the 105th minute but two late goals from Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo saw United secure a famous win at Old Trafford.
Manchester United will face EFL Championship club Coventry City, who return to Wembley after a shocking victory over Wolverhampton, in the semi-finals next month. The final of this season’s FA Cup will be played on 25 May at Wembley, the same venue where the UEFA Champions League final will also be held.
How The Man Utd Vs Liverpool FA Cup Match Unfolded
Erik ten Hag’s team started the game well and would have taken the lead inside five minutes had it not been for Caoimhin Kelleher’s brilliant save to deny Alejandro Garnacho.
The opener eventually arrived in the tenth minute when Marcus Rashford slid in Alejandro Garnacho, who released a superb shot that was punched by Kelleher, only for the ball to land on McTominay’s path. The Scottish midfielder, who has scored crucial goals for United this campaign, made no mistake as he fired home from close range.
The big question was whether Manchester United could maintain the intensity they started this game with and the answer came towards the end of the first half. Wataru Endo had the ball in the back of the net in the 38th minute but his goal was ruled out for offside in the build-up.
Just when United thought they would make it to half time in front, Liverpool scored two quick goals to turn the game around. First, Mac Allister levelled the scores, thanks to a deflection that helped him beat Andre Onana and then Mo Salah gave them a 2-1 lead after pouncing on a rebound in the box.
Liverpool dominated the second half and it looked as if there was no way for the hosts to get back into the match. However, they refused to lie down and Antony’s right foot shot inside the box levelled the scores. Rashford had a golden opportunity to win it for United just before the referee blew his whistle to signal the end of the second half but he squandered it.

Harvey Elliot’s deflected shot in the 105th minute gave Liverpool a 3-2 lead but United’s desire for a place in the last four of the FA Cup made them continue fighting. Rashford made amends for his miss in normal time by scoring another equalizer in this end-to-end tie.
United then broke away from Liverpool’s corner in stoppage time of extra time, with the move started by Garnacho who won the ball in the edge of the box and ran free before unselfishly passing the ball to Amad Diallo to score the winning goal. The 21-year-old Ivorian forgot that he had been booked and celebrated by removing his shirt, which forced the match’s referee to send him off. United finished the game with ten men.
