- The two have been invited to play in the USA in April
- They scored impressive results at Windsor
- Junior Golf Foundation impressed with growth
Kanana Muthomi and Yuvraj Rajput warmed up for the prestigious invitational tournaments in the United States with astonishing results at the latest leg of the JGF US Kids tournament played at the Windsor Golf Hotel and Country club.
Kanana was once again a class above the best in the girls 11-12 years category as she won with a score of 2 under par 70. The scores were flattering, but how she finished to grab a birdie at the last hole made it sweeter.
“I had hit my six iron to lay up for the water (at hole number 9) then after that I had hit my sand wedge into the green, then I putted once for a birdie,” said Kanana. That birdie was well celebrated as it added up to the impressive scores. Kanana has been invited to play at the Mack Champ Invitational tournament at the Carlton Woods Club in the United States from the 11th to the 13th of April.
Kanana ready for important test

“This is an important tournament because it tests my short clubs and like how I can lay up. I want to achieve to play hopefully under in every single US Kids(tournament), said Kanana.
Her scores have been way better than the rest of her age bracket. Kanana claims she is now competing with the course and not individuals as she wants to lower her handicap and her scores too.
For Yuvraj Rajput, the Callaway junior Invitation could not have come at a better time. Just like Kanana, Yuvraj is using the local tournament to sharpen his skills. He was in the lead at one under at the 15 th hole before disaster struck.
“I was playing really well and the day had been good. But golf is golf, you can mess up very easily. I hit a triple bogey twice towards the end,” said Yuvraj who finished second in the boys 13-14 years with a score of four over par 76. He was only two shots behind the winner, Justin Ngeera.
JGF impressed with invitations
JGF president regina Gachoraana
Junior Golf Foundation president Regina Gachora says the two invites for the juniors are an indication of the growth of the sport among the juniors in Kenya. “It shows that the tournaments that we have been hosting, the US Kids tournaments are exposing talents to the rest of the world. For them to go and participate in these tournaments, they are playing with the best of the best. These are tournaments that the PGA (Professional Golfers Association) players are invited for, the juniors who end up being in the PGA,” explained Gachora.
