  • However, Brentford weren’t done and found their way back into the match through Kristoffer Ajer in the 99th minute

The Brentford vs Man Utd clashed turned out to be one of the most exciting matches of the weekend in the English Premier League. Mason Mount thought he had won it for Manchester United when he struck in the 96th minute but Kristoffer Ajer had the final say in this match, scoring Brentford’s equalizer in the 99th minute.

It was a disappointing result for Erik ten Hag’s side who were desperate for a response after fellow top four rivals Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur recorded victories earlier in the day. United are sixth on the standings, the same position they were in before the match.

Meanwhile, Brentford’s struggles continue as they are now without victory in seven matches. The Bees at least deserved the draw after conceding first because they had dominated the game, ratting in over 30 shots against the visitors, hitting the woodwork four times.

Erik Ten Hag, who had shrugged off speculation over his job this week, said the equalizer against his side was unnecessary while admitting Brentford deserved it.

“We made certain mistakes. We should act differently in a different occasion. The equalizer was absolutely unnecessary. Maybe we didn’t deserve it, I thought Brentford wanted more in the whole course of the game.” Erik ten Hag said after the Brentford vs Man Utd match, as per Sky Sports.

How The Brentford Vs Man Utd Game Unfolded

Saturday marked the first time Erik ten Hag and his men returned to Brentford Community Stadium since 2022 where they conceded four goals in the opening 35 minutes. Whereas they saw this as an opportunity to avenge the humiliating loss, the Bees just wanted to return to winning ways after a disappointing start to the year. They have won just two matches across all competitions since the start of 2024.

Erik ten Hag announced the same squad that secured a 4-3 win over Liverpool in the FA Cup prior to the international break after Kobbie Mainoo recovered from illness to get into the starting line-up. Meanwhile, Brentford made two changes to the team that lost at Burnley, bringing in Keane Lewis-Potter and Yehor Yarmoliuk into the line-up.

United started the game confidently and knocked the ball around like a decent side. However, they allowed the hosts to get into the match and they completely took control of the proceedings.

Brentford knocked several times at United’s goal in the first period. In fact, they had many chances to repeat the 4-0 thumping that took place back in August 2022. However, they weren’t clinical in front of goal and a good number of chances went begging.

Ivan Toney directed Brentford’s best opportunity of the first half against the inside of the post, but the hosts still would have gone in front through Mathias Jorgensen and Yoane Wissa, but both missed their chances. All that United could show in the first half were Bruno Fernandes shot which went wide and a deflected Marcus Rashford effort which went wide.

Things didn’t get any better for United in the second period and they were only kept alive by Victor Lindelof’s solid defending and Andre Onana’s brilliant saves. A rare moment as the game progressed saw Bruno unlock Brentford’s defence and put Rasmus Hojlund in a scoring position but the Dane’s effort was stopped by Brentford’s goalie Mark Flekken.

Deep in stoppage time, Casemiro passed the ball to Mason Mount, who found his spot and then calmly beat Flekken. But in a shocking turn of evens, United fumbled at the back shortly after the restart and Ajer levelled the scores for Brentford.
