Aston Villa proved to be too powerful for Wolves on Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 2-0 victory over them during the Aston Villa vs Wolves fixture.

Moussa Diaby opened the scoring for Villa in the first half with a thunderbolt shot from the edge of the box that went past all the Wolves defenders before beating goalkeeper Jose Sa. Ezri Konsa then scored the hosts second goal of the match in the second period, which sealed the win.

Despite Unai Emery’s side being far from their best, they avoided conceding and walked away with a clean sheet on top of the three points. The win was very crucial for Villa as they regained the number four spot after briefly losing it to Tottenham Hotspur, who earlier on Saturday beat Luton Town 2-1.

“Of course, it was a difficult match. We started soft in the first 20 minutes but we recovered progressively, imposing our game plan and dominating, more or less, the result. We played serious, disciplined. That is very important. It was difficult but we did it.” Unai Emery said after his side’s 2-0 victory during the Aston Villa vs Wolves fixture on Saturday.

Aston Villa made two changes to their squad that drew at West Ham before the international break, with Clement Lenglet losing his spot at the back to Diego Carlos and Moussa Diaby coming in on the attack.

On the other hand, Gary O’Neil made just one change to his side which was stunned by Coventry in the FA Cup. Nathan Fraser was replaced up front by fellow youngster Leon Chiwome, who was making his debut in the English Premier League.

Despite Aston Villa appearing to go in front inside nine minutes when Douglas Luiz had the ball in the back of the net before it was ruled out for offside in the build-up, it was Wolves who actually were in control of the match for the first twenty minutes.

Tommy Doyle was dictating play in the midfield, which allowed Wolves to attack more. The visitors would have taken the lead through Rayan Ait-Nouri after he was found in the box by Santiago Bueno’s cross, but the left-back’s effort was saved by Emiliano Martinez.

It was time for Aston Villa to respond and Ollie Watkins, who has scored more Premier League goals than the entire Wolves starting XI this season, missed an opportunity to add to his tally after he was picked by former Leicester City man Youri Tielemans. His effort hit the side net.

Jose Sa was called into action when Pau Torres headed Leon Bailey’s cross into the box and he did what he is paid to do, stopping the ball from going in. But Villa were back again shortly afterwards and had their efforts finally pay off when Leon Bailey fired in the ball with a superb strike that Sa couldn’t stop.

Unai Emery’s side suffered a blow when their top scorer Watkins was forced to leave the pitch at half time due to injury. However, that didn’t change their attacking display in the Aston Villa vs Wolves match.

After missing out on a few decent chances, they were almost made to pay when Pablo Sarabia whipped a dangerous ball into the box after dispossessing Alex Moreno. However, Ezri Konsa did well to ensure the ball didn’t get to any Wolves player in the box.

The 26-year-old would then seal Villa’s victory on the other end when his attempted cross beat Jose Sa. It was a brilliant way to end his week after making his international debut a few days ago with the England national team.

“It’s been a perfect week. Making my debut for England and then to top it off with a win and a goal, I’m really pleased for myself and the boys.” Konsa is quoted by BBC.
