Andy Murray can’t wait for retirement after losing in the third round of Miami Open.

He lost to Thomas Machac after suffering an injury and he bid goodbye to the ATP Masters 1000 event which he hoped to win.

It was a frustrating moment for Murray and his days on the court are nearing an end. The Scottish tennis player has stated time and time again that this is his final season.

It will be the culmination of an amazing journey that saw him break multiple records and take home multiple championships, including three Slams and two gold medals from the Olympics.

Thus, Florida may have hosted the final match of the former ATP No. 1’s professional career.

Murray has for a long time battled retirement even in situations where it was evidently clear that his days of playing tennis were over.

Following his loss in Miami, he finally stated that he could not take any more losses and it was time he exited.

“I can’t wait for the end now, I’ll give it my all in the next few months and then I’ll go home to my family,” he stated after the match.

It is expected that he will play in Wimbledon one more time before bowing out as a homage to his birthplace.

Murray, a three-time Grand Slam champion is, however, pleased with his performance in recent weeks, though. He had been lacking consistency and performance for some time.

“It’s a good thing, I’ve shown signs of growth in my game and improvements highlighted in the last few tournaments. It’s not perfection yet, but considering how successful I was, managing to win some games against these opponents and pushing Thomas to the limit today is something that makes me proud because being able to do what I did after what I went through is really difficult,” he said.

Why is Miami Open Special to Andy Murray?

Andy Murray talked about his strong bond with Miami and how his training there and his love for the city have made it an important place in his career.

When Murray thought back on his withdrawal from the competition, he realized how emotionally significant it was, especially considering how important the event was to him.

As he left the court, he acknowledged experiencing a wave of nostalgia and predicted that future Miami events would evoke similar feelings.

Murray acknowledged the bitter-sweet nature of his departure from the competition and stated that he wished his involvement had continued.

“Miami has been a special place throughout my career, it’s really been like a second home because I’ve spent a lot of time training here and I love this city. But I wasn’t thinking about all the games.

“It was a particularly important tournament for me, so today it was emotional to leave the field as it presumably will be in other events I have played here, but only that it was the last one and I would have liked to make it last a little longer,” he stated.

Andy Murray Battle with Injury

Murray’s story of talent and tenacity on the tennis court is truly inspiring. But there has also been an ongoing struggle with injuries.

He has experienced recurring injuries for years. It all started in 2016 when he had a hip ailment that severely limited his range of motion and strength.

He had surgery in 2019, but there were concerns about his potential to play tennis ever again given the severity of the injury.

Still, Murray triumphed over the odds by going back to the court and even won championships although his physical form wasn’t in top shape.

Additional hip issues and other aches, led to his withdrawal from important tournaments and season-long absences.

Another setback came this year after suffering a major rupture of his ankle ligament, which put his plans to retire gracefully after Wimbledon and the Olympics in jeopardy.
