Manchester United secured a narrow 4-3 win over Wolves during the Wolves vs Man United fixture at Molineux Stadium. Kobbie Mainoo was the hero as he struck a sumptuous curler in the 97th minute to win it for the Red Devils after Neto had equalized for Wolves in the 95th minute.

It was the teenager’s first Premier League goal for Manchester United and it couldn’t come at a better time than deep in stoppage time when his team badly needed a goal.

“It is a dream come true. It is a tough place to come. We had to get the win. I have still not come down from it, I still feel like I’m dreaming, to be honest. To start playing in the Premier League for my boyhood club has been amazing. Now it’s about trying to win more games.” Kobbie Mainoo told broadcaster TNT after the end of the Wolves vs Man United match, as per ESPN.

Manchester United have moved to seventh place after the win and currently have 35 points. Wolves had not lost at home since the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool back in September and a win against the Red Devils could have moved them into the top ten. Instead, they remain 11th in the table with 29 points.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag made two changes to the team that beat Newport in the FA Cup. Andre Onana returned to the Red Devils starting XI after a disappointing campaign at AFCON and Marcus Rashford was recalled following his partying antics.

On the other hand, Wolves manager Gary O’Neil opted to just play with the same team that defeated West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup.

United started the game on a high note, with Marcus Rashford who has been trending for wrong reasons in the past few days, opening the scoring inside five minutes.

A low cross from the right was met by Hojlund, who laid the ball off to Rashford and the number ten took a first time shot that went beyond Jose Sa and into the corner of the net. With the 1-0 lead, United just seemed to grow in confidence thereafter.

Ten Hag’s side had several chances to increase the lead but were not clinical in front of the goal. Eventually, Hojlund put United 2-0 up after 22 minutes of play following a brilliant run by Luke Shaw before releasing a low cross into the centre of the box. The ball ricocheted off Craig Dawson and Sa before coming into Hojlund’s path.

The chaos at Molineux Stadium started with barely 20 minutes left in the match when Pablo Sarabia pulled a goal back for Wolves from the penalty spot. Scott McTominay added United’s third of the night in the 75th minute to leave the hosts with a mountain climb.

But with home support, Wolves found their way back into this match, thanks to captain Max Kilman’s close range finish from a corner in the 85th minute and Pedro Neto’s superb strike deep in added time.

Whereas many thought that Neto had earned a point for Wolves, Kobbie Mainoo had the final say in this  match, making his way into the box and then curling the ball into the far post. It was a sensational goal.

Manchester United have won three of their first four matches in 2024 across all competitions and Erik ten Hag was particularly impressed with his team’s performance last night.

“I think we played very good and we dictated the game for an hour. We should have gone up 3-0 or 4-0. We didn’t and in the end it’s quite naive, the way we concede the goals. It shouldn’t happen, but then we showed great resilience, especially Kobbie Mainoo, it was a great goal.” Erik ten Hag is quoted by ESPN.
