Ramires Santos do Nascimento is a former Brazilian footballer who played as a midfielder for Chelsea and the Brazilian national team, his last club before retiring from football in 2022 was Palmeiras.
He was born in Brazil to West African parents who settled in the country. His passion for football blossomed at a young age, leading him to start his journey with a local club, Royal Sport Club.
The midfielder then moved to Joinville, a professional club marking the beginning of his professional career, where he caught the attention of a major Brazilian club, Cruzeiro.
While playing for the club, he played a crucial role in their success, making them win the prestigious Bola de Prata as the best midfielder in 2008, also securing a spot in the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A Team of the Year.
In the following year, he moved to Portuguese club SL Benfica and in that season, he played a role in their league and cup double. Their success paved the way for a bigger opportunity leading him to sign with English Premier League giants Chelsea.
In search of a new challenge, he moved to China and joined Chinese Super League club Jiangsu for four seasons. After a successful spell in China, he returned to Brazil and joined club Palmeiras.
His time with the club was short-lived and for almost two years, he stayed without a club and announced his retirement in 2022. Internationally, he represented the Brazil national team in 52 matches. He was part of the squad that won the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup and secured a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

He is married to Islana Fabricia Rosa do Nascimento, who is one of his greatest supporters. She voiced her disapproval regarding her husband’s exclusion from the Brazil national team squad in 2013.
The reason for his exclusion from the Brazil national team squad is not known. However, some possible reasons might have contributed to that. The Brazil national team consistently boasts of exceptional talent, leading to fierce competition for positions in the squad. New players emerged or other midfielders might have been performing better at the time.
