Sebastien Haller is a professional footballer who plays as a striker for Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund and the Ivory Coast national team, scoring a crucial goal that led his team to victory at the 2024 AFCON.

He was born and raised in Ris-Orangis, France where he started playing for local clubs FC Olympique de Vigneux and CS Bretigny. Haller then joined the prestigious AJ Auxerre academy and progressed through the ranks, making his senior debut for the club.

His playing opportunities with the club were limited and he embarked on a loan spell with Dutch side FC Utrecht. While at the club, he found his scoring touch and this earned him a permanent move to the club where he continued flourishing.

He made a move to Germany and joined club Eintracht Frankfurt where he spent two seasons, being part of the team that won the DFB-Pokal. His impressive performance led to a move to Premier League club West Ham United though his time in England was not very successful as he struggled to adapt to the fast-paced nature of the league.

After two years playing in the Premier League, he signed for Dutch giants Ajax where he had a prolific season and his performance attracted Borussia Dortmund who signed him the following year. Unfortunately, his play time was delayed by a cancer diagnosis but he made a return the following year after successful treatment.

Haller represented France at various youth levels but switched his allegiance to the Ivory Coast. He played a key role in the team’s victory at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2024 after scoring a crucial goal that led to their win.

Sebastien Haller Ailment and Treatment

In 2022, Haller signed with Borussia Dortmund but unfortunately, his start-up with the club was delayed due to a cancer diagnosis. He discovered a lump on his testicle, which required immediate medical attention.

After several tests, he received the diagnosis of testicular cancer, which prompted surgery to remove the affected testicle, followed by four rounds of chemotherapy. Fortunately, his treatment was successful and he was declared cancer-free in January 2023.
