Goalscorers generally make headlines and accumulate the highest transfer costs, and for good reason. Putting the ball in the back of the net is the most difficult element of football, yet this group had no trouble doing so.

We rank the most in-form strikers in football now.

Lautaro Martinez (Inter Milan)

During the current campaign, Lautaro Martinez has been in incredible form, raising his profile to the level of Europe’s best center-forward.

With 19 goals in 19 league appearances for Inter Milan this season, Martinez leads closest competitor Dusan Vlahovic by seven goals in the Serie A Capocannoniere award competition.

After four and a half seasons with the Nerazzurri, the 26-year-old has already scored 115 goals. He just surpassed Christian Vieri on Inter’s all-time top scorers list. Martinez, who is prospering in the league after other Argentines like Gabriel Batistuta, Hernan Crespo, and Gonzalo Higuain, is writing his chapter on the history of great strikers at the top level of Italy.

Victor Osimhen (Napoli)

Victor Osimhen rose to legendary status in Naples last season, when his goals helped Napoli snap their league title drought. Osimhen finished the season as the league’s highest scorer, earning the Capocannoniere title in Serie A, and his 26 goals propelled Napoli to their first Scudetto in 33 years.

For his achievements, the attacker was named Serie A Footballer of the Year and African Footballer of the Year, making him the first Nigerian to win the latter title this century. The 25-year-old is an all-around center-forward who is energetic and direct, with precise shooting off either foot and a fantastic aerial jump to go past defenders.

Napoli are aware that Osimhen’s time at the club may be coming to an end, with some of Europe’s elite considering triggering a £111 million release clause this summer. First and foremost, success at the club and national levels is the priority.

Harry Kane (Bayern Munich)

Harry Kane, 30, lived up to the price tag when he signed for Bayern Munich last summer, smashing the club’s transfer record. He has had an incredible start to the Bundesliga.

After 20 games in the league, Kane has already surpassed the previous record for the most goals ever scored in the Bundesliga with 24. This season, he has 28 goals and 8 assists in all competitions.

He has already surpassed Kevin Keegan and Jadon Sancho to become the highest-scoring Englishman in a Bundesliga season. On his Der Klassiker debut, he scored three hat-tricks and a triple against Borussia Dortmund.

The main highlight of Kane’s time in Germany has been his goal-scoring, but he has also shown that he can link plays and choose passes. Kane has been the ideal focal point to weave together the German attack in a Bayern team that features wide players capable of devastating runs into center areas.

Kane, who moved to Munich in pursuit of the elusive trophy, will be concentrating on defeating Bayer Leverkusen in the final match and winning the Euro 2024 championship with England this summer in Germany.

Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain)

The limitation to naming Kylian Mbappe the best striker in the world is the lesser quality of competition in Ligue One.

Mbappe has, however, shown himself on the grandest stage, with his electrifying displays for France cementing his standing as probably the world’s best footballer.

The 25-year-old has dominated French football, and this summer looks to be the appropriate moment to move on, having scored 242 goals in 289 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain and been named Ligue 1’s top scorer five times in a row.

When Mbappe becomes available for free in July, Real Madrid seems to be the natural choice for his next move. He seems to be the ideal answer to the expectations of the Spanish powerhouses, who will provide the striker the foundation he needs to win the Champions League.

Above all, Mbappe has the quality that most defenders dread the most: unstoppable pace. He is capable of doing things that others on this list are not. If he departs Paris this summer, as is predicted, it will be interesting to see how he handles the transition.

Erling Haaland (Manchester City)

Erling Haaland would have undoubtedly topped this list last season, following a record-breaking first campaign in a Manchester City shirt. Haaland scored 52 goals in all competitions, a Premier League record, and established a new record of 36 goals in a single Premier League season.

The Norwegian’s prolific record propelled Pep Guardiola’s team to triple triumph, and he has continued to impress this season, scoring 19 goals in 24 appearances despite a recent foot injury.

With his ability to score goals, Haaland may be the perfect central striker for Manchester City, who creates more opportunities than any other club in Europe. Haaland can concentrate on events inside the box, which is where the 23-year-old comes alive, thanks to the group of creatives in the City side.

Although he may not have as much depth as some of the other names on this list, when the opportunity arises, he is a formidable force.
