Girona are back to winning ways after thrashing Rayo Vallecano 3-0 on Monday night during the Girona vs Rayo Vallecano game.

Girona had gone winless in three matches, losing two and managing a draw in one, but bounced back in the best way possible by defeating Rayo Vallecano and keeping a clean sheet in the process.

Viktor Tsygankov opened the scoring for the hosts in the 52nd minute before two stoppage time goals by Savio sealed the win in a dramatic encounter. Rayo Vallecano finished the game with ten men after two fouls within 50 seconds of  each other saw substitute Pep Chavarria receive two yellow cards. Chavarria had been on the pitch for just 12 minutes.

Girona are currently second on the standings with 59 points, six behind leaders Real Madrid and two above third placed FC Barcelona.

Speaking after the 3-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano, Girona manager Michel mentioned his plans and also hinted about startlet Savio, who has been linked with Manchester City. According to reports, the Premier League team made use of their City Group connections to get a deal with Savio’s parent club Troyes. The 19-year-old is one of the best youngsters in the world right now and will be in demand during the summer transfer window.

“We regained second position, and we are once again the top scorers in La Liga. This is data that we like and that makes us want to remain the same until the end of the season. I’m sure I’ll be here next year, and I hope Savinho can also stay with us.” Michel told Diario Sport, as per Get Spanish Football News.

Girona Vs Rayo Vallecano

After losing two consecutive games to Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao, Girona knew they had to return to winning ways at home against Rayo Vallecano. But it was the visitors who came close to opening the scoring after ten minutes of play, when Raul de Tomas decided to test the goalkeeper with a long range effort.

Girona had to wait until the 36th minute of the game to record their first shot of the match, courtesy of Yangel Herrera. The 26-year-old Venezuelan then fired another shot three minutes later that also didn’t produce the desired impact.

After a goalless first half, Girona returned with the aim of finding a goal and they did get the opener in the 52nd minute, thanks to Viktor Tsygankov who recorded his sixth goal of the season.

From there, Girona dominated the match and were close to doubling their lead several times. Having been fortunate to enter the last 20 minutes of the match without conceding a second goal, Rayo Vallecano came close to finding the equalizer through Alvaro Garcia. The 31-year-old, who is Vallecano’s top scorer, pounced on Miguel Crespo’s dangerous ball in the box but failed to beat Girona’s number one keeper Paulo Gazzaniga.

The visitors hopes of finding an equalizer in this encounter was soon dealt a massive blow when Pep Chavarria was sent off. The 25-year-old left-back was shown the way to the tunnel by the match’s referee after two reckless challenges within 50 seconds.

Despite being ten men on the pitch, Rayo Vallecano managed to contain the visitors until stoppage time when they suddenly collapsed and conceded two quick goals. Savio showed his brilliance in the box by cutting in and then beating a tired Rayo Vallecano defence beating the goalkeeper. He used the same trick to score his second goal of the night with seconds remaining.
