  • Arsenal showcased their attacking talent on a 5-0 against Burnley
  • Martin Odegaard scored two goals
  • Gabriel Jesus, Granit Xhaka and Eddie Nketia contributed one goal each

There was a Premier League match today 17th February 2024 between Arsenal and Burnley, with Arsenal scoring 5-0, emerging victorious with a convincing margin.

Their victory involved contributions from several players, both in terms of scoring and overall gameplay. Their attacking display was fluid and composed, creating numerous scoring opportunities. Their defence remained solid, minimising Burnley’s chances and securing the clean sheet.

Arsenal controlled the game from the start, putting high and dictating the tempo. They had several early chances, with Martin Odegaard forcing a good save from Nick Pope in Burnley’s goal.

Odegaard opened with a powerful shot from the edge of the box that gave the team their lead. Burnley tried to respond but found creating opportunities against a well-organized Arsenal defence difficult. Their best chance came through Maxwel Cornet whose shot went narrowly wide.

Arsenal started the second half with more intent and in the 54th minute, Gabriel Jesus tapped in from close range after a pass from Odegaard. A short while later, Granit Xhaka added another goal with a long-range strike that deflected off Ben Mee and past Pope.

The two goals ended the game as a contest. Burnley lacked the attacking threat to trouble Arsenal, who took over the game.

As the full-time whistle blew, the score was 5-0 to Arsenal, a dominant performance that solidified their position at the top of the Premier League table.

Arsenal Team Participation

The Arsenal team’s starting lineup goalkeeper of the match was Aaron Ramsdale who made several important saves throughout the match, keeping a clean sheet. The defenders of the match were Takehiro Tomiyasu, Ben White, William Saliba, and Kieran Tierney and they defended solidly as a unit, limiting Burnley’s chances and providing good attacking support.

The team’s midfielders were Granit Xhaka, Thomas Partey, and Martin Odegaard who controlled the midfield, dictating the pace of the game and creating opportunities for the attackers, Odegasrd opened with a brilliant scoring goal.

Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus threw a constant threat on the wing and Saka scored the second goal with Trossard adding the third goal. Despite Jesus being lively, he did not score a goal.

Emile Smith came in as Trossard’s substitute, Eddie Nketiah came in for Jesus in the 82nd minute and had a late chance to score. All the starting players were solid and contributed to the victory with Odegaard, Saka and Trossard standing out with their goals and overall performances.

Burnley Team Participation

While the defenders made numerous defensive interventions, they were often under pressure and couldn’t effectively stop Arsenal’s attacks. The midfielders struggled to win possession and distribute the ball effectively and were often bypassed by Arsenal’s quick passing and movement.

The attackers on the other hand were starved of service throughout the match and had few touches and their impact on the game was very minimal. All the players contributed in their best ways though Arsenal was ready to attack and blocked all their way to victory.

Conclusion about the Match

With Arsenal winning, they moved up to second place in the Premier League table, putting them in serious contention for the title.

Their recent run of four consecutive away victories demonstrates their consistency. Their players stood out with their goals and overall contribution, which highlights the presence of individual talent and their ability to deliver in crucial moments.

For Burnley, the defeat deepens their struggles in the league, keeping them firmly in the relegation zone and it also poses a threat and raises concerns about their ability to avoid relegation.

The match exposed Burnleey’s defensive vulnerabilities as they were not able to effectively contain their rivals’ attack. This calls for improvement as the lack of attacking threat and scoring opportunities indicates their difficulties in creating attacking plays and converting them into goals.
