Manchester United survived a significant FA Cup scare against Newport County to win 4-2 in a thrilling match as Antony scored his first goal of the season on Sunday.
Having blown a two-goal lead at Rodney Parade, Erik ten Hag’s team was in danger of suffering an epic giant-killing.
The Red Devils were without Marcus Rashford, who the team said was absent due to sickness. However, there was controversy surrounding his absence since on Thursday night, he was sighted at a Belfast nightclub, which might result in disciplinary consequences.
Seven minutes into the match, Man United took the lead thanks to a fantastic long-range effort from Fernandes, who found himself free down the left and met Antony’s cross in the bottom corner.
After yet another outstanding play by the Red Devils, Antony went close to scoring himself in the eleventh minute, but his attempt from inside the box was just too high.
But in the thirteenth minute, Man United doubled their advantage when Diogo Dalot found Mainoo, who finished well to sweep his shot into the far corner.

In the 25th minute, Bayindir made his first significant contribution to the Man United goal when he cleverly stopped an Evans effort from Newport.
In the 36th minute of play, the home team was able to cut the lead in half thanks to a spectacular goal by Morris, who deflected the ball and sent it into the net off the post.
It was an uncomfortable way for Man United to close the first half, but the Premier League team managed to take a 2-1 lead into halftime. Newport enjoyed their greatest run of the game in the minutes that followed, with Morris’s effort undoubtedly lifting the crowd.
With Man United leading the way, Antony blasted an incredible attempt over the home team’s goal early in the second half. However, Evans gave Newport an incredible equalizer in the 48th minute when he touched a low cross from Adam Lewis into the bottom corner from close range.
As Man United attempted to respond, Newport goalkeeper Townsend did a great job stopping Fernandes in the 54th minute. Bayindir then had to stop a header from Delaney at the opposite end of the field.
In the 67th minute, Harry Charsley missed the goal for the away team, but in the 68th, Man United took the lead again when Antony scored his first goal in nine months at close range after Shaw struck one against the post from a distance.
The game was delayed due to a medical issue in the stadium, but it resumed as Townsend denied Garnacho in the 77th minute.
Harry Maguire, who is now being strongly linked with a transfer away from Old Trafford, made an appearance as a late replacement after returning from injury.
After nine minutes, Evans missed a chance to tie the score at Rodney Parade with a shot that went just wide in the ninetieth minute.

In the 94th minute, the visitors secured their place in the following round of the tournament when Hojlund, a Danish international, scored his eighth goal of the season after Forson had been denied.
James Waite gave Newport a late chance to score a third, but Bayindir made a great stop and the ensuing corner was cleared.
Man United’s focus will now return to the Premier League as they get ready to go to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Thursday, while Newport will play Swindon Town in their League Two match the following weekend.
