Mohammed  Salah suffered an injury while playing for Egypt at AFCON 2023 games hosted in Ivory Coast. The player was flown out to England where he is expected to receive treatment.

He is a professional footballer from Egypt who plays as a forward for Premier League club Liverpool and captains the Egypt national team. He is one of the best players in the Premier League and has a prolific goal-scoring ability.

The 31-year-old has been a shining star for the Egyptian national team where he has achieved remarkable feats throughout his career. His impressive performance at the 2018 AFCON held in Egypt helped his team secure their spot in the tournament.

He was named the BBC African Footballer of the Year twice, for two consecutive years and he reached a historic milestone by scoring his 50th international goal for Egypt. The player’s arrival at Liverpool marked a turning point for him and the club. He has claimed the coveted Premier League Golden Boot thrice and was awarded the prestigious Premier League Player of the Season for two consecutive years.

Mohammed Salah Biography

The player was born on June 15 1992 in the Nile Delta village of Basyoun, Egypt. His passion for football blossomed at a young age and caught the attention of El Mokawloonn, a Cairo-based club where he impressed Swiss club FC Basel and they signed him.

He flourished in Europe winning two Swiss Super League titles with an impressive performance in the Europa League, which led to a move to Chelsea though he was sent on loan stints at Fiorentina and Roma.

While at Roma, his exclusive performance earned him a place at Liverpool which brought him back to England, where he currently plays. His arrival at Liverpool marked a new chapter in the club’s history.

Mohammed Salah’s Injury

The player sustained an injury during Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations stage match against Ghana. He pulled out shortly before halftime, indicating discomfort in his left thigh. He required medical attention on the field and limped off holding the back of his left thigh, which suggested a potential hamstring injury.

Salah was so disappointed as he sat on the pitch unable to continue, though he was replaced by Mostafa Fathi. He is receiving treatment in England, a decision that was made by the Egypt national team medical team as well as Liverpool FC’s medical team after further examinations.

It was expected that Salah would return to Ivory Coast later in the tournament for the semifinals if Egypt qualified though there are no updates on the progress of his recovery or potential return to the AFCON.

Salah’s Injury and its Impact on Egypt and Liverpool

The player’s injury came at a time when all eyes were on him, with expectations that he would lead the Egypt national team to success at the 2024 AFCON games ongoing in Ivory Coast. This is not only worrying for Egypt but for Liverpool as well considering the player’s importance to their respective teams.

He was immediately replaced by Mostafa Fathi and Egypt drew the match, his absence could affect their performance in the remaining group stage games and potentially beyond. Liverpool will be monitoring Salah’s condition closely as they have a busy upcoming schedule with Premier League and Champions League commitments.

What to Expect from Salah After Recovery

Predicting someone’s future is always tricky but based on his performance, at least we have a hint of what to expect from the player. First and foremost, we expect that he completes his rehabilitation diligently by taking heed to the medics’ advice.

We also expect that he will come back to play as a substitute before building up his playing time and intensity to avoid overwhelming his recovered muscles. This is a player who always delivers and once fully fit, he will continue to be a key threat for both Liverpool and Egypt.
