Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa is a Cameroonian professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Serie A club Napoli and the Cameroon national team, where he is the team’s captain.

The player’s first steps onto the pitch were on the dusty grounds of his hometown through hours of playing with friends, and this attracted local scouts leading him to the renowned Coton Sport de Garoua academy in Northern Cameroon.

The club’s academy was the midfielder’s launchpad for his career as it trained him on discipline, laying the foundation for his future success. While still playing at the academy, he attracted the French giants Olympique de Marseille and got an opportunity to play with the club, where he made his professional debut, marking his early years at the club with brilliance.

Anguissa needed more playing time and he embarked on loan spells to Spanish club Villareal and English club Fulham, experiences that exposed him to different playing styles and helped him mature as a player.

During his playing time with Fulham, he became a mainstay, helping the club get its promotion to the Premier League. His impressive performances helped convince Italian club Napoli to sign him, initially on a loan and then permanently. Since then, he has played a key role in their third-place finish in Serie A in 2023.

Internationally, he represents the Cameroon national team and the pinnacle of his international career came when he led Cameroon to victory at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2022, and is the captain of the team.

The midfielder was born on November 16 1995 in Yaounde, Cameroon’s capital city known for its busy football activities. His passion for the sport blossomed at a young age and his family was supportive of his talent but also took into consideration formal education.
