  • Canada has produced some of the greatest professional wrestlers we know
  • From WWE superstars such as Bret Hart to Edge, the list of Canadian wrestlers is long
  • Many wrestling fans will argue that Bret Hart is the greatest Canadian wrestler of all time

Who are the greatest Canadian wrestlers of all time? If you are a wrestling fan, then you must have known by now that not every top wrestler is an American. Wrestlers come in all shapes in sizes, and some of the incredible stars we have seen step in the ring are from countries far from America.

From WWE superstars such as Bret Hart and Edge to the likes of Kenny Omega who has never wrestled for WWE, the list of Canadian wrestlers is long. But who really is the greatest? In this article, we will be looking at five candidates who we feel deserve that title.

1. Bret Hart

Bret Hart is one of the most popular figures in the wrestling world, and many will argue that he is the GOAT Canadian wrestler. Hart is a five-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion and is well known for his exceptional run of championships over a period of five decades. He was WWE’s top star during the 1990s.

The 66-year-old is a second-generation wrestler and a member of the Hart wrestling family. It is also worth mentioning that he is one of the few wrestlers who have been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame twice.

2. Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho was born in Manhasset, New York. However, he grew up in Winnipeg and identifies as a Canadian, which is why he qualifies to be on the list of the greatest Canadian wrestlers.

Jericho is an icon in the wrestling world, something which journalists and his fellow pro wrestlers agree to. Over the years, he has worked with numerous promotions but is best known for his time with WWE and AEW, where he is currently signed. Jericho, who is currently 53 years old, has won over 35 championships in his legendary career.

3. Edge

Ontario’s Edge is not only one of the best in Canada but the whole world. Edge has been entertaining wrestling fans since 1992 and has worked with several promotions all over the world. The 50-year-old and his former tag team partner Cristian are among the wrestlers who played a significant role in reviving tag team wrestling during the Attitude Era.

Following his exit from WWE in 2023, Edge joined AEW where he performs under his real name Adam Copeland. He has held the WWE Championship four times and is a WWE Hall of Famer.

4. Kenny Omega

Just because he has never competed in WWE like the other wrestlers on this list it does not mean that he is not one of the greatest Canadian wrestlers of all time. Omega boasts one of the best tracks record in the ring, especially during big matches. He has won titles working with different promotions, including New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), Ring of Honor, Impact Wrestling and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide.

The 40-year-old is currently signed to All Elite Wrestling (AEW), and his legacy will always be tied to the promotion since he played a big role in its creation.

5. Roddy Piper

One of wrestling’s most recognizable heels, Roddy Piper is often mentioned among the greatest wrestlers in history. He was someone that people loved to hate and became a heel on his mic skills alone. Due to his role, wrestlers such as Hulk Hogan reached the levels where they reached and professional wrestling became famous all over the world.

And to answer that question that might be really bothering you, no, Piper was not Scottish. He was billed as coming from Glasgow but he was born in Saskatoon, Sasklatchewan. Piper passed away on 31 July 2015 at the age of 61.

6. Owen Hart

Owen Hart is another deceased star on our list of the greatest Canadian wrestlers of all time. A one-time WWF European Champion and two-time WWF Intercontinental Champion, Hart was one of the best in the ring during his days. In fact, the only major belt he didn’t hold was the world championship.

Owen is a member of the Hart family and his WresteMania match with his brother Bret Hart is easily among the best in WWE history. Hart died on May 23, 1999, during his entrance from the rafters of Kemper Arena in Kansas City.

Abraham Odhiambo is an avid sports fan who loves to write about football, boxing and wrestling. He's a big supporter of Manchester United. He's pursuing a bachelor's degree in Communication and Media at Egerton University.
