Career
Stephen El Shaarawy started his football journey playing for local club Legino. He then joined Genoa in 2006 as a 14-year-old and continued his development.
On 21 December 2008, El Shaarawy made his senior debut for Genoa in a Serie A match against Chievo. He is currently the eighth youngest player to debut in Serie A. El Shaarawy made the bench several times after his debut but didn’t play until the end of the season.
Genoa loaned El Shaarawy to Serie B club Padova in June 2010 ahead of the 2010-11 season. He quickly became a key player for the Venetian club and led them to the promotion play-off finals where they lost to Novara.
