Career
Born in Ondarroa, Kepa Arrizabalaga began his football journey playing for Athletic Bilbao at the age of ten. He went though the club’s youth set-up and made his senior debut with farm team CD Basconia in Tercera Division in January 2012.
On 5 May 2012, Kepa received his first call to the main squad but remained an unused substitute in the 0-0 La Liga draw against Getafe CF. He was part of Athletic Bilbao’s squad for the pre-season games and was also a substitute in a home fixture against Malaga CF.
Kepa was loaned out to SD Ponferradina and Real Valladolid where he got playing time. After returning from his loan spells, he was included in Athletic Bilbao’s first team and eventually made his debut for the club on 11 September 2016. He kept a clean sheet as side secured a narrow 1-0 win.
Despite being heavily linked to Real Madrid, Kepa Arrizabalaga ended up joining Chelsea in August 2018. Chelsea paid 72 million euros for the transfer, a record fee for a goalkeeper. With the Blues, he won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
