Police in Colombia have offered a huge reward of 200 million pesos (£40,000/$49,000) for anyone with info on the alleged kidnapping of Luis Diaz father. A major military and police search is currently underway in Colombia for the father of the Liverpool player.
According to reports, the parents of Luis Diaz were kidnapped in their home country on Saturday afternoon. The Colombian authorities have not provided information about the kidnapping but local media states that Diaz’s mother and father were kidnapped by armed men on motorcycles at a gas station.
Cilenis Marulanda, Luis Diaz’s mother, was released hours after the kidnapping but his father, Luis Manuel Diaz, has not been released by the kidnappers.
BBC Sports reports that more than 120 soldiers, plus police, searched northern Colombia on Sunday but the operation bore no fruits. The police are now willing to pay a huge amount for anyone who will provide information leading to the rescue of Luis Diaz father.
“On the instructions of the Minister of Defense, a reward of up to 200 million pesos will be given to anyone who gives us information that allows us to find the whereabouts of Mr. Luis Diaz.” Goal.com quotes police general William Rene Salamanca.
El Tiempo reports that authorities in Colombia fear the kidnappers could be trying to take Luis Diaz’s father out of the country. They already found the motorcycle Mr. Diaz was taken away with and they are afraid he is being taken to Venezuela.
The Colombian authorities are doing all they can to ensure that Luis Manuel Diaz is rescued from the kidnappers. The army has set up roadblocks, deployed helicopters, unmanned aircraft, a plane and two motorised platoons to help in the operation.
Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro is keen on the operation and has said that all public forces had been deployed to aid in the operation.
The Colombian Football Federation is also following the alleged kidnapping and has offered support to the Liverpool player and his family.
