After graduating from high school, he enrolled at the University of Washington where he played for four seasons for the Huskies.

Schrempf was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1985 NBA draft where he played for four seasons before being traded to the Indiana Pacers playing for four seasons and won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award twice.

The former player was traded to the Seattle SuperSonics where he spent the rest of his NBA seasons, eight to be precise till his retirement in 2001.

After he retired from active playing, he became a television analyst for the NBA and runs a basketball academy in Germany plus several business ventures.

Schrempf is married to Mari Schrempf and they have two sons together. The family lives in Seattle, Washington.

Detlef Schrempf played in the NBA for sixteen seasons and his career was so successful. He was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1985 NBA draft and played for the team for four seasons before he was traded to the Indiana Pacers.

At Indiana Pacers, he played for four seasons and his career was most successful with the team where he was a two-time NBA All-Star and won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award twice.

After four seasons with the Pacers, Schrempf was traded to the SuperSonics where he spent his final eight seasons in the NBA. With the team, he was a three-time All-Star and reached the NBA finals with the Supersonics.
