Renowned tennis icon Boris Becker, says Novak Djokovic is a star because he is excellent at dividing forces and only plays the most prestigious tournaments when in peak physical shape.

Becker says this strategy by Djokovic allows him to keep his energy and remain in top physical, emotional and mental state.

The German tennis coach who is a six-time Grand Slam champion and former coach of Djokovic, also emphasizes the distinctive trait that sets Djokovic apart.

He said that Djokovic’s profound devotion to representing Serbia also pushes him to do better in every tournament.

During Becker’s coaching stint from 2014 to 2016, Djokovic achieved remarkable milestones, clinching six Grand Slam titles and an impressive 14 ATP Masters 1000 tournaments.

Djokovic’s recent triumph at the 2023 US Open, where he secured his 24th men’s Grand Slam title, further solidified his status as a tennis legend.

Notably, this accomplishment positions him two Major titles ahead of his prominent rival Rafael Nadal and a notable four ahead of Roger Federer, who retired from professional tennis the previous year.

In the current season, the world No 1 continued his remarkable run by capturing three out of the four Grand Slam tournaments, prevailing at the Australian Open and the French Open.

His unparalleled success was only briefly interrupted when he suffered a hard-fought five-set defeat to the young and promising Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final – a loss that marked Djokovic’s first in a completed match at the hallowed grounds of the All England Club since 2016.

Djokovic is now gearing up to return to competitive action, with his next appearance scheduled for the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Paris.

His most recent outing was in the Davis Cup group stage last month, where he contributed to Serbia’s advancement to the quarter-finals of the Davis Cup knockout phase by defeating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

In the upcoming quarter-final clash, Serbia will face Great Britain in what promises to be an enthralling encounter.

Speaking on Eurosport Germany’s podcast, Das Gelbe vom Ball, Becker lauded Djokovic’s strategic approach to his career.

He highlighted how, at the age of 36, Djokovic manages to conserve his energy for the most important events, predominantly the Grand Slams, where he consistently showcases his best form.

Following these pivotal tournaments, Djokovic typically takes a well-deserved break before reengaging in the Davis Cup, where he proudly represents his home country.

Becker attributes this dual commitment to Djokovic’s deep-rooted love for Serbia and his unwavering patriotism, qualities that set him apart in the world of professional tennis.

Becker, a three-time Wimbledon champion himself, recently disclosed that he has embarked on a coaching journey with the young and promising talent, Holger Rune, who is currently ranked sixth in the world.

Rune is participating in the Swiss Indoors ATP 500 event, where he is set to face Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the quarter-finals.

Rune, keen to gain insights from Becker’s time as Djokovic’s coach, expressed his excitement and eagerness to learn from the tennis legend.

He acknowledged that Becker was imparting fundamental yet crucial aspects of the game, aiming to improve his performance and reach new heights in his career.
