- Boris Becker remains banned from attending Wimbledon
- Becker’s ban from the prestigious tournament is not related to his coaching career
- The 55-year-old, a six-time Grand Slam winner, is currently prohibited from entering the UK
Despite his high-profile return to coaching ATP star Holger Rune, former tennis legend Boris Becker remains banned from attending Wimbledon.
Becker’s ban from the prestigious tournament is not related to his coaching career but stems from his legal troubles.
The 55-year-old, a six-time Grand Slam winner, is currently prohibited from entering the UK as a result of his release from jail.
In April 2022, Becker was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison for concealing £2.5 million in assets and loans to evade financial obligations and declaring bankruptcy.
He served eight months of his sentence before being granted an early release in December of the same year and subsequently deported to Germany. The terms of his early release prevent him from returning to Great Britain.

Recently, Becker made headlines by announcing his role as the new coach for world No. 6, Holger Rune, who is a 20-year-old Danish tennis sensation.
Despite Becker’s legal restrictions, he is committed to coaching Rune and is proud of the opportunity.
He mentioned that he has been interested in coaching Holger for a while and appreciates Rune’s dedication and passion for tennis.
Their collaboration came to fruition when Rune invited Becker to a training week in Monte Carlo. Becker’s coaching team includes Holger’s mother, Aneke, and performance coach Lapo Becherini.
Rune spoke positively about his training experience with Becker, emphasizing the value that the former world No. 1 brings to his coaching role.
Rune acknowledged that Becker has been a longtime supporter and mentor, offering advice and guidance, particularly during Rune’s younger years.
He highlighted Becker’s ability to understand the psychological and emotional aspects of the game, as Becker himself has experienced the pressure and challenges of professional tennis.
While Becker is unable to attend Wimbledon due to his legal situation, he is committed to helping Holger Rune achieve success in the sport.
Becker expressed his pride in being chosen as Rune’s coach and the positive rapport they share.

His busy schedule might prevent him from participating in the Stockholm tournament due to prior commitments, but he plans to join Rune in Basel and beyond, aiming to secure Rune’s qualification for the prestigious Nitto ATP Finals in Turin.
Becker’s coaching career with Holger Rune is marked by enthusiasm and commitment, despite his ongoing legal restrictions that prevent him from attending Wimbledon and other events in the UK.
His expertise and mentorship have already had a positive impact on Rune, who values Becker’s experience and insights as a former tennis champion. Their partnership holds promise for Rune’s future in professional tennis, and Becker remains determined to support his protege on his journey to success in the sport.
