  • They have also signed defender Collins Odhiambo from Kakamega Homeboyz
  • The brewers have signed eight new players

Tusker FC, the 12-time FKF Premier League champions have completed the signing of two players, the last of their eight new acquisitions for the new season. The brewers have snapped up right back Collins Odhiambo from Kakamega Homeboyz and young midfielder Chris Erambo from second division side Mombasa Elite.

The arrivals add on to the return of defender Eugene Asike who came back to the team after one season in the Swedish third tier, as well as the signings of midfielder Fabien Adikiny, Ugandan John Byamukama, Joseph Mwangi, James Kibande and young keeper Edwin Simiyu.

“I am delighted to join Tusker because this is a big team and where victory is a must. This will definitely push me to become a better player and win more titles,” stated Odhiambo.

He adds; “I was really looking forward to this chance and having trained with the rest of the team for the last week, I feel welcomed and I am already at home.”

He will improve the competition for a regular right back at the team, with Jimmy Mbugua having manned the right side of the backline for the first three games of the season. Also competing for the slot is Daniel Sakari, last season’s assured starter, who has however been out due to injury.

Ready for competition

“I am ready for competition and actually that is the best thing. This is not like Homeboyz where you were assured of starting. Competition keeps you on your toes and I am looking forward to it,” added the defender.

Meanwhile Erambo says he is delighted to be making his first top flight move. He joined Elite in 2021, having played at Division Two club Kibera Saints as his first professional club in 2019 and 2020.

“I am really excited because this is the first time I am playing in the Premier League. I am looking forward to the challenge and definitely ready for it. I have been welcomed really well and I look forward to giving my best,” noted Erambo.

He adds; “From the first day when I came for trials, I felt comfortable and now the work is upon me to work hard for a starting role.”

Tusker had been short of options in midfield, and had looked on signing former Kariobangi Sharks man Sven Yidah who had returned to the country after leaving South African side Marumo Gallants.

Erambo second option

When Yidah’s pursuit fell through, they looked elsewhere and settled on the green and inexperienced Erambo.

The two are expected to be part of the match day squad for their next game at home against Muhoroni Youth, with Tusker looking to bounce back to winning ways after last weekend’s defeat away to Kakamega homeboyz.

The team has also meanwhile been boosted with the return of striker Ibrahim Joshua to first team training, though the Tanzanian international is still weeks away from being in contention for a place in the match day squad.
