Manchester United have officially completed the signing of striker Rasmus Hojlund from Serie A club Atlanta. The Red Devils will pay an initial transfer fee of £64 million, with £8 million in add-ons for Hojlund’s transfer.

According to Manchester United’s official website, Hojlund has signed a contract running until June 2028, with the option of a further year, subject to international clearance. The 20-year-old Denmark international was unveiled to Manchester United supporters at Old Trafford ahead of the friendly match against Lens on Saturday.

On his first interview as a Manchester United player, Rasmus Hojlund said he has been supporting the club since his childhood.

“It is no secret that I have been a fan of this great club since I was a small boy, and I dreamed of walking out at Old Trafford as a Manchester United player. I am incredibly excited by this opportunity to turn that dream into a reality, and I am determined to repay the faith that the club has shown in me. It is still early in my career, but I know that I am ready to make this step up and play with this group of world-class players.” Rasmus Hojlund said, as per United’s website.

Hojlund joined Atalanta in 2022 and scored 10 goals in 34 appearances in his only season with the club. Apart from Man Utd, Paris Saint-Germain had also shown interest in the 20-year-old.

There have been suggestions that Hojlund could be available for United‘s final friendly game on Sunday against Athletic Bilbao. However, The Athletic reports that the Denmark international will miss the first few matches of the 2023-24 season due to a minor issue. Hojlund picked up an injury during Atalanta BC’s preparations of the new season.

Manchester United will begin their 2023-24 campaign against Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 14. They will then face Tottenham Hotspur on August 19. Hojlund could make his debut for the Red Devils on their third league match of the season against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on August 26.

Hojlund is Erik ten Hag’s third signing this summer transfer window, following the arrival of Mason Mount from Chelsea and Andre Onana from Inter Milan. Considering the amount United have spent on transfers this summer, their incoming business is largely done.

Any more signings by the Red Devils will now depend on departures. According to reports, Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek and Fred could leave before the window is closed. Manchester United recently rejected a £20 million bid from West Ham for Harry Maguire. They are willing to let Maguire leave if a fee that matches his valuation arrives.

According to Sky Sports, Manchester United will go back into the transfer market if there are exits. Following the arrival of Rasmus Hojlund, the Red Devils’ next target will now be Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.
