KCB FC announce five new signings ahead of 2023-24 FKF PL season

KCB FC's new signings for the 2023-24 season.
  • The bankers finished outside the top three last season
  • Derrick Otanga has returned after a stint with Police FC
  • They start their season against AFC Leopards

FKF Premier League side KCB has announced the arrival of five new players as preparations intensify for the 2023/2024 FKF-premier league season.

Striker Derrick Otanga rejoins the Bernard Mwalala-led side from Police FC, Goalkeeper Brian Olang’o is joining the team from Mathare United, Winger Stephen Etyang previously plying his trade at Ulinzi Stars, Defender Bernard Odhiambo from Bandari FC while Defender Herit Mungai joined from Nairobi City Stars.

“I am very happy to be back home after my short stint at Police. This is a place I know very well and even though I have not worked under coach Mwalala before, he has been instrumental in enabling us to settle in with the rest of the squad. There is of course enormous pressure for me to bag the goals and hopefully help KCB lift this season’s title,” Otanga said after his unveiling.

Otanga, a proven local talent was the top scorer of the 2021/22 FKF-premier league season and will be keen on propelling KCB FC to its maiden Kenya Premier League title.

He had left for a short stint in Libya, but returned, joining Kenya Police FC for the second leg of last season.

This season, after his six-month spell at Police ended, he had closed in on a move to Tusker FC, but instead chose for a return to the bankers, who offered him a better deal.

Start season against AFC Leopards

The bankers will kick-start their new campaign against AFC Leopards at the Kasarani Stadium after the postponement of the Kakamega Homeboyz clash that was scheduled for this weekend.

Meanwhile, coach Bernard Mwalala has also announced that goalkeeper Gabriel Andika will captain his team deputized by Midfielder Brian Ochieng and Maurice Ajwang.  Andika takes over from Michael Mutinda who is still out injured.

KCB, who finished 5th in the previous season will be looking to turn its fortunes around this season with the recent recruits and the new technical bench under the tutelage of coach Mwalala.

KCB struggled to make an imprint last season, despite massive support from their sponsors. This led to the constitution of a new technical bench, with Zedekiah Otieno leaving at the end of his contract last season.

Odhiambo now coaching Nzoia

Assistant coach Godfrey Odhiambo also left, and has since joined Nzoia Sugar as their new head coach following the departure of Salim Babu who left for Kenya Police FC, where he is their new assistant coach.

Former player and captain Elvis Ayany returned to KCB, on his previous role as assistant coach. The new technical bench is looking forward to delivering results with the team, and making them title contenders.

“The boys are highly motivated ahead of the new season and we cannot wait to get underway. We have been preparing for it with the new boys coming in. Otanga, who is an old KCB boy, knows the team well and he has been gelling well with the squad,” said assistant coach Ayany.
