FKF Cup champions Kakamega Homeboyz will face off with Uganda’s Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) in a friendly match in the Ugandan capital this weekend, as part of the ‘KCCA Day’ celebrations.

The Ugandan side has invited Homeboyz for the match, as it will be beneficial for them in their preparation for the CAF Confederation Cup season.

For KCCA, it will be an opportunity to launch their way into the new season, as they look to fight back for the Premier League title, after they lost it for a second consecutive season to rivals Vipers SC.

“The event is a way for the club to connect with its fans and supporters. We want to give our fans and supporters a chance to come together and celebrate the club ahead of the 2023/24 season,” said Shahir Muhoozi, the KCCA Chief executive officer.

She added; “The player unveiling event and the international friendly is an opportunity where we seek to elevate the game of football in the country. As icing on the cake, the combination of music and football is a catalyst to spice up the flavor to a wider community than our usual reach.”

The friendly match will be a great opportunity for the Ugandan side to field their new signings and test how much they have integrated with the squad, the club having gone on a signing spree with Brazilian and Angolan players joining in.

Meanwhile for Homeboyz, it will be a good opportunity to test themselves against a formidable opponent ahead of the Confederation Cup, where they have been paired against Libya’s El Hilal in the first leg of the first preliminary round later this month.

Homeboyz coach Patrick Odhiambo believes it will be a good opportunity for them to see just how well the team has blended together after four weeks of pre-season.

“I think we have done quite some bit of work in pre-season and this game will help us see where we are as a team. It will be good to play against a tough side because in Continental football, we are definitely playing against the best from every country,” said the tactician.

Looking forward to their Continental football bow, the coach believes they have a good team and will be in a good position to do well and make the next round.

“We are taking a game at a time. We don’t know much about our opponents but we will try to find out some bit. We want to get into the next round and starting with the first leg, we have to give our best. It is all about how you plan your matches and execute them,” said the coach.

Homeboyz earned the right to play in the Confederation Cup after winning the FKF Cup and will be Kenya’s sole representative in continental football after Gor Mahia were axed from the Champions League due to a FIFA transfer embargo.
