Already, top guards in the WTA such as Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, Ons Jabeur have their place in tennis. Swiatek, for instance, burst into the limelight in 2022 with two Grand Slams to her name. She is an astounding four-time Grand Slam champion.

Swiatek and her ilk seemingly continue to inspire a fresh crop of young WTA players who will grace this year’s US Open. Here they are.

Alycia Parks shot up the rankings from outside the top 200 in the 2022 season and into the top 50 earlier this year. This phoenix-like shoot makes her the centre of focus this season at Flushing Meadows in New York to be specific.

She upset the top seed Caroline Garcia in the Lyon final and performed admirably this year in the clay court tournaments. Parks share a serve with the Venus and Serena Williams sisters. Many never forget her tie with Venus for the fastest serve at 129 mph in the WTA at the 2021 US Open.

MIRRA ANDREEVA

This season, the teenage Russian who openly admits to admiring Andy Murray has already made quite an impact. She established herself as the queen of the preliminary rounds after successfully navigating Wimbledon and the French Open.

She is yet to play on a hard court this season, despite winning a few ITF hard court tournaments at the end of 2022. However, she has a positive trajectory by defeating many seasoned players, such as former US Open semifinalist Leylah Fernandez and former French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova.

Andreeva will be making her US Open main-draw debut after moving up the rankings this season. Her talent is raw and you can’t help but watch her play.

LINDA FRUHVIRTOVA

Linda Fruhvirtova, the eldest of the two Fruhvirtova sisters, rose to fame after winning her first championship in Chennai at the end of the 2022 season. She demonstrated her talent by making it to the Wimbledon girls’ singles semifinals in 202. This was a continuation of a strong heritage of champions from the Czech Republic.

She got off to a strong start in the 2023 season by defeating fellow countrywoman and future Wimbledon winner Marketa Vondrousova. She finally booked her route to the quarterfinals of the 2023 Australian Open. Linda made it through the US Open qualifying stages in 2022, and now that she’s in the main event, she has some motivation to improve.

QINWEN ZHENG

Li Na’s victory at the 2011 French Open serves as Zheng’s inspiration. In 2022, Zheng won the French Open and advanced to the fourth round. She also advanced to the third round of Wimbledon and the US Open.

She won her first WTA title in Valencia last year, and she followed that up with another victory earlier this year in Palermo. Venus Williams, Jelena Ostapenko, Bianca Andreescu, and Sloane Stephens are among the former Grand Slam champions who Zheng has defeated. Throughout her career, Zheng has also met world No. 1 Iga Swiatek four times, and she prevailed against her in three of these meet-ups.

LINDA NOSKOVA

Another heavy-hitter from the Czech Republic is 18-year-old Linda Noskova. She is a wrestling enthusiast besides tennis and she is happy that she has a world No. 42 WTA ranking. She advanced to the WTA finals in Prague, and Adelaide early this year.

Before falling to Coco Gauff in the round of 32, she made an impression on Indian Wells’ hardcourts earlier this year. At the most recent Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, Gauff once again dashed her aspirations. Noskova advanced to the round of 16 but did not make it past this stage.
