Early Life
In the Belgian town of Bree, on May 11, 1992, Thibaut Courtois was born. Courtois was interested in many sports as a child, including tennis, basketball, and volleyball, but he ultimately chose to concentrate on football. Before joining the youth system of Racing Genk, one of the finest teams in Belgium, he began his career playing for the neighborhood team Bilzen V.V.
After impressing their scouts and joining their young squad, Racing Genk gave him a trial.
He and Koen Casteels, a player of similar age who was seen as having a higher potential and had been selected for the young national team, had a fierce rivalry as they rose through the ranks of Genk.

He started his professional career in the 2010–11 season with Genk when he won the league’s Best Goalkeeper of the Year award and was chosen as the club’s best player after conceding just 32 goals in 40 games. He also contributed to their victory in the Belgian Pro League.
In July 2011, Chelsea acquired him. He spent the following three seasons on loan with Atletico Madrid after being promptly released.
In his first and second seasons, Courtois helped Atletico Madrid win the Copa del Rey and La Liga championships, solidifying himself as one of Spain’s top goalkeepers. He was also crucial to Atletico’s 2013–2014 season journey to the UEFA Champions League final, where they ultimately lost.
Courtois returned to Chelsea in 2014 and quickly established himself as the team’s starting goalkeeper. He was a significant contributor to Chelsea’s 2014–2015 Premier League championship, 2014–2015, and 2015–2016 League Cup victories.
However, during the 2017–18 campaign, Courtois lost the respect of new Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, and in August 2018, he was subsequently moved to Real Madrid. Real Madrid’s 2019–2020 La Liga and Supercopa de Espana victories were made possible by Courtois, who has cemented himself as the team’s starting goalkeeper. He has since won both the UEFA Champions League and La Liga in 2021–2022.

In October 2011, prior to a friendly match against Slovenia, he received his first call-up to the senior Belgian team. A month later, on November 15, 2011, he made his debut against France in a friendly. Although Belgium drew the game 0-0, he had a fantastic debut and preserved a clean sheet.
Since making his national team debut, Courtois has been a key contributor for Belgium, helping them get to the 2018 FIFA World Cup semifinals as well as the 2014 FIFA World Cup quarterfinals. Additionally, he was a member of the Belgium team that placed third in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, winning the award for the best goalkeeper in the competition.
