Serie A side AC Milan confirmed the signing of Nigerian forward Samuel Chukwueze from Villareal on Thursday evening.
Chukwueze has signed a five-year deal that keeps him at AC Milan until 30 June 2028. He will wear the number 21 jersey playing for the Rossoneri.

“AC Milan is delighted to announce the signing of Samuel Chimerenka Chukwueze from Villarreal CF. The Nigerian forward has signed for the Rossoneri until 30 June 2028. Born in Umuahia (Nigeria) on 22 May 1999, Samuel came through the Diamond Football Academy Youth Sector before moving to Villarreal in 2017… He has been capped 28 times for Nigeria and scored four goals.” Part of AC Milan’s statement on the signing of Chukwueze reads.
According to Fabrizio Romano, AC Milan have paid 20 million euros plus eight in bonuses for Chukwueze. The 24-year-old had one more year left in his contract with Villareal and wanted a new challenge elsewhere. He was on the radar of several European clubs, including those in the Premier League. However, he only wanted to join AC Milan, as per football transfers expert Fabrizio Romano.
Chukwueze never had anything concrete regarding a move to England despite his agents holding meetings with some clubs. He had his eyes on AC Milan because of their project and the fact that he will be an untouchable starter next million.
The Nigeria international will will not join AC Milan on their USA tour due to visa timelines but he will be ready before the start of the 2023-24 Serie A season.
Chukwueze is the seventh signing AC Milan have made this summer. His arrival follows that of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Christian Pulisic, Noah Okafor, Luka Romero, Tijjani Reijnders and Marco Sportiello.
According to reports, Chukwueze could make his debut for AC Milan on August 8, in the friendly match against Monza. Milan still have to play two more games on their USA tour against Juventus and FC Barcelona before returning to Italy.
The arrival of Samuel Chukwueze fixes a big problem that AC Milan have had on the right wing for years. The Serie A side lacked attacking output over the past decade on the right wing and Chukwueze is the man to fill that gap. This can be proven by the fact that he amassed 13 goals and 11 assists across all competitions for Villareal last season.
Samuel Chukwueze began his football journey at Diamond Academy and then joined Villareal’s youth setup in 2017. Since making his senior appearance for the Yellow Submarine, Chukwueze has scored 37 goals while registering 31 assists. He was part of Unai Emery’s squad that won the UEFA Europa League title in 2021 after defeating Manchester United. Chukwueze is one of the best talents Nigeria has produced in recent years.
