Ollie Watkins is a product of the Exeter City academy. He joined the academy at U11 level and rose through the ranks to sign a scholarship deal in 2012. During the 2013-14 Football League Youth Alliance, Watkins scored 30 goals for the U18 team.
Watkins’ impressive performance earned him promotion to the senior team, making his debut in the final League Two match of the 2013-14 season. He came on as a second-half substitute in the 2-0 victory over Hartlepool United. The youngster was often an unused substitute during the 2014-15 season.
On 8 December 2014, Watkins was loaned out to Weston-super-Mare for one month. However, he ended up remaining with the Conference South club until the end of the season.
