Balogun was born in Berlin, West Germany on June 28 1988 to a Nigerian father and a German mother. His parents raised him in Roman Catholic and sent him to a Catholic school at a young age and the defender is a devout Christian.

He speaks fluently in German and English but doesn’t know his father’s language since he was brought up in a German culture.

After high school,  Leon did not proceed with his education and went into his career. However, he is a self-educated man who is passionate about learning and loves reading books about philosophy, religion and history.

He is also a qualified personal trainer and is passionate about learning about fitness and nutrition. Balogun is not married but rumor has it that he has a girlfriend who might be his future wife.

Career

Born in Berlin, Germany, Balogun began his career with Turkiyemspor Berlin before moving to Hannover 96.

He signed a two-year contract with Brighton and Hove Albion and two years later, he moved to Wigan Athletic on a six-month loan deal. After the contract, he signed a short-term permanent contract with the club until the end of the season.

From Wigan Athletic, he signed for Scottish Premiership club Rangers on a one-year contract with an option of extending further. He signed a one-year contract with the club and scored a goal for the club in a Europa League group stage and left on the expiry of his contract.

Queens Park Rangers signed him on a one-year contract and one year later, he went back to Rangers after departing from the club as a free agent which was a big celebration by the club and its fans.

Internationally, Leon has represented Nigeria at the senior international level making 46 appearances for the Super Eagles, scoring 1 goal.

He was included in Nigeria’s squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, where he played in all three of Nigeria’s group matches.

The defender was also part of Nigeria’s squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, playing in all six of Nigeria’s matches though they were eliminated in the 16th round by Tunisia.
