Newcastle United has finalized the acquisition of Harvey Barnes from Leicester City, marking their second addition to the first-team roster during the current summer transfer window. The winger’s signing comes after the club’s record-breaking transfer of Sandro Tonali from AC Milan.

The Magpies secured Barnes for a significant £38m fee, and to finance the arrival of the 25-year-old, they are on the brink of selling Allan Saint-Maximin to Saudi Pro League outfit Al Ahli.

Harvey Barnes had been a subject of interest for West Ham United, and Aston Villa also expressed their desire to secure his services. However, the player ultimately opted for a move to St James’ Park, aligning his future with Newcastle United.

During this transfer window, Newcastle had also explored the possibility of signing Barnes’ former Leicester City teammate, James Maddison. However, Maddison chose to prioritize a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur instead.

Although Barnes is yet to receive a senior cap for the England national team, he has been previously called up by manager Gareth Southgate. Impressively, the winger managed to score 13 goals in the Premier League last season, despite Leicester City’s relegation to the Championship.

With the club gearing up for their return to the Champions League, where they will enter the group stage as a top four-team, Eddie Howe, the manager of Newcastle United, is determined to bolster his squad and reinforce their chances in the prestigious competition.

The signing of Harvey Barnes is seen as a significant move for Newcastle, as the club aims to build a competitive team capable of making an impact both domestically and on the European stage. Barnes’ attacking prowess and goal-scoring ability will undoubtedly add firepower to the Magpies’ frontline, enhancing their chances of success in various competitions.

As the transfer window progresses, Newcastle United fans eagerly await further updates on potential new arrivals and departures. The club’s ambitions for the upcoming season appear promising, with the hope of securing strong performances and establishing their presence as a formidable force in English football and beyond. With Barnes now in their ranks, the excitement among supporters continues to grow, and expectations are on the rise for an eventful and successful campaign ahead.
