As teams aim to strengthen with new additions and enhancements to the squad, clubs in the Premier League and around Europe are working furiously behind the scenes in an effort to complete deals.

In light of the constant transfer rumors and speculation, we’ve looked into five excellent midfielders that every club wants to sign this summer.

Declan Rice

Declan Rice is potentially the most sought-after player in the Premier League summer window, with last season’s top two teams vying for the West Ham captain’s services. The midfielder was Mikel Arteta’s top transfer priority, making Arsenal look to be the front-runner in the hunt for Rice. However, Manchester City will provide a significant challenge.

As West Ham continues to demand a price of close to £100 million for the England international, both clubs have had their proposals rejected. Following Rice’s development as one of the Premier League’s most important box-to-box midfielders, the Hammers valued the team when he led the team to its first major title in 43 years last season.

The 24-year-old is almost to 50 caps for England and will provide a long-term presence to whatever team signs him. Since it will cost a lot of money to replace the club captain’s influence, West Ham will hope that a bidding battle will drive his price tag higher.

Mason Mount

Following a stalemate in negotiations between Chelsea and Manchester United, Mason Mount’s future is still uncertain. The latter have had three offers for the 24-year-old rejected. His Chelsea contract expires next summer, and he has not indicated that he would be prepared to sign an extension.

In an effort to convince Chelsea to lower their £65 million asking price for the midfielder in light of the possibility of losing Mount to a free transfer, United are said to have kept their third offer, which is estimated to be worth £55 million, on the table.

Erik ten Hag has given Mount’s acquisition first priority, but he is ready to go elsewhere if Chelsea’s position does not change.

The press savvy and tenacity of Mount would be an asset to Ten Hag’s club in the upcoming season.

Bernardo Silva

Bernardo Silva, a midfielder for Manchester City, has frequently been the subject of transfer rumors in recent transfer windows. The Portugal international is still a crucial member of the treble-winning team, but he has been coy about his future despite hints that he is up for a new challenge.

The 28-year-old is wanted by Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Saudi Arabian teams, but Manchester City is hoping that the offer of a new contract would convince Silva to stay at the Etihad. The European champions, with whom he is under contract for another two seasons, will expect a hefty transfer price if the midfielder attempts to go.

James Maddison

Premier League teams are circling for Leicester’s star players after the Foxes were relegated from the top division; James Maddison is one of those players.

Newcastle has had a long-standing interest in the 26-year-old midfielder, but Tottenham is now in the lead and has reached an agreement on personal terms with the player. Maddison, who is valued at almost £50 million at the King Power Stadium, is still up for discussion with Spurs as to the ultimate price.

Moises Caicedo

Brighton continues to outperform the competition in the Premier League, but the drawback of such success is that the richest people in England will also keep circling for the club’s best assets.

Before the summer is out, Moises Caicedo is certain to join Alexis Mac Allister, who has already left to sign with Liverpool. Both Chelsea and Arsenal had bids for the Ecuadorian rejected in January, and both clubs are still interested. The former is leading the hunt as new manager Mauricio Pochettino attempts to turn around a disastrous season at Stamford Bridge.

A ball-winning bundle of energy for Brighton, Caicedo was second in the Premier League for tackles and interceptions in 2022–23. The 21-year-old is valued at almost £80 million at the Amex Stadium and may net Brighton a record sale before the transfer window closes. He is hardworking, tenacious, and has the potential to grow.
