Life has not been smooth on his side as he was once involved in a grisly road accident in Delta state and they both survived it. However, his car was badly damaged.

He also went through a trying moment of losing his father who suffered a stroke and succumbed to the illness two years later.

In 2012, he was reportedly kidnapped by gunmen near Warri, Delta state but was rescued the next day by the Nigeria Police force with no ransom paid and suspects arrested.

Christian got married to his girlfriend Barbara in a secret wedding ceremony held in Abia State in 2012.

Career

Obodo is regarded by many as the most skilful and talented midfielder who has played for Super Eagles. He played for the Flying Eagles under coach Stephen Keshi at the Youth African Championship in Ethiopia in 2001.

Though the team crushed out of the tournament with one point from three games, Obodo showed a lot of promise in a team that had other high-ranked players.

He made his awaited debut for Super Eagles in the LG Cup tournament in 2003 featuring in the games versus Ghana and Cameroon.

He also appeared as a substitute in the Brazil friendly where he played as a striker and appeared in a match between Nigeria against Malawi in an ANC qualifier scoring his first goal in a win over Algeria.

The following year, the player was signed by Fiorentina as a key part of their renovation as the team came back to Serie A.

They only bought half the registration right and the next year, La Viola and Perugia made an auction to decide his future, Perugia won but immediately sold him out to Udinese.

Obodo played his first UEFA Champions League with Zebrette in that season partnered in midfield with Sulley Muntari, up until Muntari exited for Portsmouth.

In the 2006 World Cup qualification series, he made six appearances over 10 and scored a goal. At the Africa Cup of Nations in 2006, he featured in four out of six Nigeria games scoring two goals against Zimbabwe. He last played for the Super Eagles two years later.

The player was plucked from relative obscurity in the Nigerian league where he played for Plateau United before he became one of the hottest properties in the Italian Serie A, having a brilliant season at Perugia.

He scored his first-ever Serie A goal in a draw against Inter at the end of the season.

Portuguese S.C. Olhanense announced that they had agreed to deal with Obodo after playing in a training game against Lokomotiv Moscow.
