- Celtic Football Club is set to appoint former manager Brendan Rodgers as their next manager
- The Scottish champions have been managerless after Ange Postecoglou left for Tottenham Hotspur
- Rodgers was sacked by the now-relegated Leicester City towards the end of last season
Celtic Football Club is nearing the completion of a deal to reappoint former manager Brendan Rodgers. The Scottish champions have been swift in their search for a replacement following Ange Postecoglou’s departure to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
Initially, Celtic had compiled a shortlist of potential candidates, which included Enzo Maresca, a coach from Manchester City, and Pascal Jansen, the manager of AZ Alkmaar. However, Rodgers has emerged as their top choice for the position.
Dermot Desmond, the owner of Celtic, has been leading the negotiations with Rodgers, who has expressed his willingness to return to the club. Both parties are now on the verge of finalizing the agreement. In discussions, Rodgers has reportedly outlined his expectations regarding transfer funding, and Desmond has assured him that the necessary resources will be provided to overhaul the squad.

Currently unattached after leaving Leicester City towards the end of the previous season, Rodgers had been approached by Leeds United regarding a potential managerial role at Elland Road. However, it has been reported that the former Liverpool manager had little interest in working in the Championship at this stage of his career.
Now, Rodgers is prepared to make a comeback to Celtic Park, four years after departing for the Leicester job. As part of his return, he aims to bring back several familiar faces to the coaching staff, including Glen Driscoll and Jack Lyons. However, Chris Davies, his former assistant, is strongly linked with the managerial position at Swansea City and is unlikely to join the reunion.
Furthermore, Rodgers hopes to convince John Kennedy, a member of Celtic’s coaching staff, to remain at the club rather than accept an offer to join Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur.
The potential reappointment of Brendan Rodgers at Celtic promises to add stability and experience to the club. The negotiations between Rodgers and Desmond indicate that both parties are committed to reaching an agreement that satisfies their respective aspirations. The return of Rodgers, along with his desired staff additions and potential retention of key personnel, could mark a significant step forward for Celtic as they seek to regain their dominance in Scottish football.
