Kjaer, who was raised in Horsens, began playing football when he was four years old. His father, Jorn Kjaer, the club’s equipment manager, encouraged him to join the amateur ranks of Lund IF near Horsens before transferring to the FC Midtjylland development team in 2004.
Kjaer began his career as a midfielder before one of his coaches moved him to the position of defender, where he continues to play now. He won the best player award at a French youth competition in April 2006.

He was promoted to the main team after a strong start for FC Midtjylland’s youth team, and on September 30, 2007, he made his debut against AGF. Top English Premier League clubs like Middlesbrough and Chelsea were interested in his talents while he was with the Danish Superliga club.
However, he transferred from Midtjylland to the Italian football team Palermo in February 2008 for a rumored transfer fee of $ 13.93 million. On October 26, 2008, he made his club debut for the Italian squad as a substitute against Fiorentina, and on November 2, 2008, he scored his first goal for the group against Chievo.
He became the main defender for the team and a regular starter thanks to his outstanding performances for Palermo.

Simon Kjaer represented Denmark’s U-18, U-19, and U-21 teams. In 2007, he was awarded the nation’s top U-19 player. After his performance, it was inevitable that he would be selected for Denmark’s senior team, and in February 2009, he received the call.
As team captain, Kjaer led Denmark’s national football team to a 2018 FIFA World Cup appearance.
Kjaer was the first to assist Christian Eriksen after he passed out on the field during their opening match against Finland on June 12, 2021. He also swiftly called for medical personnel to enter the field. While Eriksen was unconscious, he also saw to see that his airways remained open.
