Tusker FC’s hunt for a season’s double remains on check after progressing to the semi-finals of the FKF Cup, following their 2-0 victory over KCB on Saturday.

Second half goals from David Odoyo and Deogratious Ojok handed the brewers a ticket to the last four. It was also the second consecutive victory over the bankers in under four days, having beaten them in a league match in midsweek.

“It is not easy to do a double over a team within such a short period of time. I am really happy with how we played and how we fought. We will keep working to achieve our targets this season,” said Tusker’s head coach Robert Matano.

The brewers got into the match knowing only too well their journey in the tournament last time it was hosted ended in the same stage.

Missed chances by Eric Otieno

They started well and should have had two goals with clear opportunities missed by lanky forward Eric Otieno. The attacker was picked out with a brilliant cross from Levin Opiyo, but he tapped over from the edge of the six yard box.

Minutes later, another brilliant delivery from the right, this time by Daniel Sakari, found him well placed inside the box, but he scuffed his header wide.

After a barren first half, Tusker broke the deadlock in the 67th minute when Odoyo thumped a shot home from inside the box after being set up by Mike Oduor.

Tusker’s goal had come just after brian Bwire had made a brilliant save to turn Harrison Mwendwa’s shot against the bar. Bwire had been in commanding voce at the back for Tusker, and had also made good saves to deny Musa Masika.

The brewers continued dominatin and doubled their tally six minutes to time when Ojok slid to hot the ball home from inside the box off a Humphrey Mieno assist.

Ulinzi see off Sofapaka on penalties

Tusker will take on Ulinzi Stars in the semi-finals, the military side having endured penalties to beat Sofapaka 5-4 following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

Stephen Okola was unfortunate for Sofapaka as he saw his last penalty come off the bar. Levian Ochieng, Simon Abuko, Addis Panoam and Roy Okal had scored their kicks.

Ulinzi were perfect in theirs with all of their five s cored.

In regulation time, Boniface Muchiri, who was named man of the match scored the opener for the soldiers with a perfectly hit freekick.

Sofapaka however laboured to equalize and they did so when South Sudanese international Panoam reacted quickest after the Ulinzi keeper Ricks Omondi had palmed a shot.

“We did well and in penalties, whoever is lucky wins. We feel delighted to have made the next round and we hope to fight for the title. This is a chance to play in Continental football and we will give our best to see to it that we achieve the target. It will be tough against Tusker but we will be ready,” said Bernard Mwalala, the Ulinzi Stars coach.
