AS Roma and AC Milan netted in stoppage time to draw 1-1 in their Serie A fixture last night as the race for top four intensifies.

Roma’s Tammy Abraham thought he had secured crucial three points for his side when he found the back of the net in the fourth minute of stoppage time. However, the two teams ended up sharing the points at Stadio Olimpico after Alexis Saelemaekers leveled for Milan three minutes later.

Despite failing to protect their 1-0 lead for just a few minutes, Roma boss Jose Mourinho said he is proud of the performance exhibited by his players.

“If we only talk about the performance, then I say the result is unfair on us. Only we, only we, with all that we built as a team, only we can play against Milan the way we did with all the difficulties that we are in. We are not a rich team, we don’t have a big squad. Every time we lose a player it is a big problem and we lost several today. I am sad, obviously, as we had three points in our hands, but I am more proud than I am sad.” Jose Mourinho said after Roma drew 1-1 with AC Milan, as per OneFootball.

AC Milan remain fourth in the standings, level on 57 points with Jose Mourinho’s side who are fifth. Both teams are two points behind third-placed Juventus who will face Bologna on Sunday. Inter Milan could move level on points with AC Milan and AS Roma if they snatch a win over second-placed Lazio.

How The Game Unfolded

Roma went into the match against Milan without Paulo Dybala, Chris Smalling, Gini Wijnaldum, Rick Karsdorp and Diego Llorente who are on injury. The list of injuries grew as Marash Kumbulla and Andrea Belotti suffered knocks by half-time against Milan.

AC Milan started the game cautiously but their attacks increased in number and speed as the game went on. Stefano Pioli’s men had a decent chance just after the half-hour mark but Rafael Leao fired wide. Roma responded to Milan’s missed chance with a close-range shot by Lorenzo Pellegrini, which was unfortunately blocked by Tammy Abraham.

Milan continued to attack and had two good chances just before the half-time whistle; however, Davide Calabria and Fikayo Tomori failed to convert.

The game was uneventful after the break and it looked like heading for a 0-0 draw. However, Tammy Abraham gave Roma fans a reason to celebrate when he took a low shot into the left corner in the 94th minute. Alexis Saelemaekers cut short Roma’s celebrations three minutes later when he equalized from a Leao cross.
