  • Chelsea is in advanced talks with Mauricio Pochettino to appoint him as the next permanent manager
  • The Blues have been in a shambles this season and will look forward to next season
  • We take a look at how Pochettino could line up with the Blues and also the expected transfers at Stamford Bridge

With word that Mauricio Pochettino is on his way to becoming Chelsea manager in June, Blues fans are beginning to look ahead to what looks to be an entertaining 2023/24 season.

So, how will Pochettino line up with Chelsea? In the summer, who will the club sign? In the summer, who will the club sell?

We had a peek…

GK Diogo Costa – Since Edouard Mendy’s injury issues began to mount, the Blues have been in desperate need of an improvement between the pipes. Diogo Costa is the best goalie who isn’t currently playing in one of Europe’s major leagues (no offence, Liga Portugal), and he’s worth the investment.

RB Reece James – James has had an up-and-down season, but when he’s on, he’s one of the best in the world. Expect James to succeed under the tutelage of a manager who helped Kyle Walker develop into one of the best full-backs of his generation.

CB Wesley Fofana – Fofana, one of Chelsea’s few bright spots in recent weeks, has clearly established himself as the club’s future captain.

CB Thiago Silva – 38 years old and remains the Premier League’s top centre-back. Thiago Silva will always start for Pochettino if he is fit.

LB Ben Chilwell – Chelsea fans may expect Chilwell’s performance to improve tenfold with Poch as manager, as it did for James on the opposite wing.

CM N’Golo Kante – He’s been injured for 90% of the last few seasons, but if he can stay fit (a big ‘if’), he’ll be key to how Pochettino’s Chelsea play.

CM Enzo Fernandez – We haven’t seen the best of the British record signing yet since Chelsea have been a complete disaster. Enzo’s performances should improve dramatically once a clear tactical plan is in place at Stamford Bridge.

RM Christopher Nkunku – Didn’t you forget he was coming to Chelsea? Don’t be concerned; everyone did. Nonetheless, he could be the ideal Son Heung-min-style goalscoring wide man for Poch.

AM Mason Mount – There has been much conjecture over Mason Mount’s future at Chelsea, but if Pochettino is appointed, Mount will almost probably sign a new contract with the club. Simply put, Mount is the ideal Pochettino midfielder, capable of both creativity and combat.

LM Mykhailo Mudryk – The Ukrainian will make the starting lineup next season. It remains to be seen whether he has the talent to flourish at Chelsea.

ST Victor Osimhen – Chelsea requires a striker. There are few better strikers in the world than Victor Osimhen. Chelsea will need a striker of Osimhen’s calibre if they are to challenge for the domestic titles next season.
