Brentford’s 3-2 win against Fulham capped an exciting Premier League weekend that saw Liverpool trash Manchester United 7-0 at Anfield, while Arsenal’s 97th-minute goal kept them ahead of the pack in the Premier League.
SportsLeo compiles the team of the week.
Goalkeeper: Danny Ward
Danny Ward kept the South Coast score from getting worse despite Leicester’s 1-0 loss.
The Welshman made a number of significant saves for his team, mostly in the first half, including one to stop James Ward-Prowse’s penalty shot in the 32nd minute.
Right-back: Matty Cash
The Polish international put in a strong performance as Aston Villa defeated Crystal Palace 1-0 on Saturday, winning 10 of his 12 duels.
The 25-year-old’s incisive run down the right side also set up Villa’s winning goal, with Joachim Andersen turning the full-whipping back’s pass into his own net.
Centre-back: Wesley Fofana

Chelsea defeated a struggling Leeds United team at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon to earn their first victory in seven games.
The West London team had struggled to score, and the young Frenchman would end up scoring the unexpected game-winning goal.
Fofana was outstanding defensively and in possession in addition to scoring the game’s only goal, which was his first in the Premier League. He completed 96% of his passes, won seven ground duels, and five aerial duels.
Centre-back: Armel Bella-Kotchap
Armel Bella-Kotchap, a 21-year-old German defender, put on a strong performance as Southampton moved off the Premier League’s bottom with the help of his nine ball recoveries, four clearances, three interceptions, and winning every ground battle.
The fact that Leicester failed to score on any of their 11 shots on goal and concluded the game with an expected goals total of 1.93 helped Southampton retain a clean sheet.

The Scotland international displayed his outstanding performance at Anfield as Liverpool thrashed Manchester United.
Cody Gakpo scored the game’s first goal just before halftime thanks to a great through ball from the 28-year-old, who also created three significant chances over the entire 90 minutes.
In addition to being an offensive threat, Robertson played strong defence to contain United’s offensive threat, making the first half a fairly competitive contest despite the lopsided appearance of the final score.
Midfield: Romeo Lavia
The Saints defeated Leicester 1-0 thanks to another strong performance from the young Belgian.
Although the young 19-year-old was outstanding in the middle of the park, recovering 14 balls, winning all three of his tackles, and making two crucial passes at the opposite end, Southampton only had 35% of the ball at St. Mary’s.
The midfielder stopped a Leicester attack with a challenge that ultimately resulted in Southampton’s victory.
Midfield: Martin Odegaard

The Norwegian had an astounding 104 touches as the Gunners overpowered Bournemouth, holding the ball for 80% of the game (97 minutes) and registering 31 shots.
Odegaard was in charge of 11 of those attempts as he sought to get his team back into the game. He completed three crucial passes, made 11 crosses, and triumphed in six of his eight ground battles.
Forward: Brennan Johnson
Brennan Johnson has excelled since moving up from Championship this season, and the Welshman scored two goals in Nottingham Forest’s 2-2 draw with Everton that may have been pivotal.
When Jordan Pickford made a save, the 21-year-old countered Demarai Gray’s opening goal with an instinctive finish. He then caught the England goalkeeper off guard by tying the score again in the 77th minute to keep Forest’s four-point lead over the bottom-dwelling team.
Forward: Mohamed Salah
On a fantastic night at Anfield, Mohamed Salah was at his magnificent best as he dismantled Manchester United by contributing to four goals.
The Egyptian surged towards the Manchester United defence with speed and purpose, setting up Gakpo for the third goal, before unleashing an incredible instinctive finish that bounced against the underside of the crossbar to make it four.
As Roberto Firmino added a seventh goal, he helped put the finishing touches on the scoreline by making it six.

The Dutch international has made a rather delayed adjustment to life in England, but he has shown some of the play that led Liverpool to pay £35 million for him in January.
He scored the game’s first goal just before the half with a strong run to the left and a clinical finish into the bottom corner before adding the game’s pivotal third goal from an almost impossible angle.
