Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen once again found the back of the net for Napoli last night at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
Napoli started the game well with their fluid attacking approach and possession game. Jose Mourinho’s side struggled to have the ball and were completely dominated in the first 15 minutes of the game.
The Partenopei’s efforts paid off in the 17th minute when Victor Osimhen scored a sensational volley. Mario Rui and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia exchanged passes in a beautiful manner before the latter clipped the ball into the far post, where Osimhen was just waiting.
The lethal forward first chested down, kept in the air with his thigh before firing an unstoppable volley past AS Roma goalkeeper Rui Patricio. Victor Osimhen has now scored 14 Serie A goals this season.
AS Roma still struggled even after conceding the first goal, and it took them nearly the whole first half to find a shot on target. It was Leonardo Spinazzola’s effort that Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret saved.
The game started going in AS Roma’s side immediately after Stephen El Shaarawy was brought on at the start of the second half. As Roma moved forward in search of an equalizer, Napoli came close to doubling their lead in the 55th minute.
Kvaratskhelia squandered a golden opportunity after receiving a pass from Hirving Lozano. His first heavy touch meant the ball was gone.
Roma came forward again and nearly found the back of the net in the 62nd minute. Goalkeeper Meret did well to save Bryan Cristante’s header.
The visitors finally found the equalizer they were looking for in the 75th minute, thanks to Stephen El Shaarawy. The Italian sneaked past Lozano far post to slot home Nicola Zalewski’s cross.
Well, everyone thought that the points were going to be shared at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium when Giovanni Simeone’s stunning left foot in the 86th minute gave Napoli a 2-1 lead.
