  • Tusker have lost only twice this calendar year
  • They have won four straight matches this season
  • They face KCB at the Kasarani Annex

FKF Premier League leaders and defending champions Tusker FC are looking to end the year on a high as they face off with KCB at the Kasarani Annex on Thursday. The brewers have lost only twice this calendar year and are keen to finish off on a high.

They have won all their first four matches of the season and sit top of the log with a maximum 12 points, victory on Sunday set to hoist them to 15 and open a healthy four point gap over second placed Kakamega Homeboyz who have played a match more.

Goalkeeper Patrick Matasi says the team is keen to finish the year on a high.

“Last season, we were on a run of 21 unbeaten matches and when we started the season we wanted to continue. Now we have the final game of the year and everyone is determined that we head to the festive season with happy faces, with a win,” said the custodian.

He added; “We have prepared very well and we had some time to rest because we didn’t have a game last weekend. Now the focus is sharp and we want to win.”

Tusker lead the standings with 12 points and victory will ensure they have a four point gap to Kakamega Homeboyz who are second with 11 points, having played two matches more.

“KCB is a tough team and we know we expect a tough duel. It has always been close between us with many draws over the last five meetings but we want to see if we can break that,” Matasi added.

The brewers will welcome back their skipper Humphrey Mieno who has missed their last two matches as he was taking his initial stages in taking coaching badges, attending the CAF Licence D Course.

They will however still remain without forward Shami Mwinyi who is nursing a foot injury. That notwithstanding, they will still have enough depth to take on the bankers.

The bankers have had a mixed start to the season, winning three and losing two of their first five matches of the season. They sit fifth in the standings with nine points.

Matches between these two sides have always been tight but Tusker has the biggest head to head advantage having won 10 of their last 21 meetings, drawing a similar number while the bankers have won once.

The last five meetings though have ended in draws. The last game they played ended 1-1 with Tusker scoring a last gasp equalizer.

Meanwhile, Mathare United will finally have their first match of the season after the promotion and relegation saga was settled with a meeting of all aggrieved parties with the Federation.

They will take on Nzoia Sugar at the Utalii Complex, looking to start off the season with a win, almost four weeks after the rest of the teams started their campaigns. Mathare have had to rebuild their squad with most who featured for them last season having left due to uncertainties.

The team was dismantled midway through the season after they decided against honoring league matches.
