5 top tennis players with most Masters 1000 titles

• There are nine ATP Masters tournaments held each year
• Six are on hard courts and three on clay
• ATP is considering adding one more grass court Masters 1000 event

Players with most masters 1000 titles have a lot to take pride in their tennis careers.

The ATP Masters 1000 tournaments are a series of nine tennis competitions that take place annually. These competitions include the highest-ranked players on the ATP Tour.

Since the beginning of the ATP Tour in 1990, the tournaments feature in both Europe and North America. They started in Asia from 2009.

There are nine ATP Masters tournaments held each year. Six are on hard courts and three on clay. However, for the previous three years, only eight took place after Shanghai Masters was postponed due to the global spread of the coronavirus.

With ATP mulling the introduction of an additional Masters 10000 on grass courts in Germany or the UK, the prestige goes higher.

That said, let’s look at the players with most masters 1000 titles.

NOVAK DJOKOVIC

This Serbian superstar has a total of 38 ATP Masters 1000 titles. Djokovic is the only man who triumphed in each of the nine Masters tournaments. In addition, he is the only participant to have won each of them at least twice.

Six of his victories came in either the Miami Open or the Paris Masters, making those two tournaments his most successful overall. His 2015 season at the Masters level was the finest season ever for a Masters player.

Djokovic competed in seven of the eight competitions, but only skipped the final round at the Madrid Open. The two tournaments he didn’t win were the finals in Montreal and Cincinnati.

RAFAEL NADAL

The ‘King of Clay’ has taken home 26 of his titles on clay. With 11 wins in Monte Carlo, 10 in Rome, 4 in Madrid, and 1 at the predecessor event in Hamburg, Nadal has a total of 36 major championships.

He definitely is among players with most Masters 1000 titles. With victories at Indian Wells, Monte Carlo, Madrid, Rome, Montreal, and Cincinnati, Nadal had his finest ATP Masters season ever in 2013.

And in all but one of the eight tournaments he played in that year, Nadal made it to the semifinals. The only two Masters tournaments the Spaniard has not won are in Miami and Paris.

ROGER FEDERER

The Swiss player has 28 Masters 1000 titles. Federer won 22 of his 28 Masters 1000 titles on hard courts. On clay at the 2002 Hamburg Masters, though, he won his first title.

Federer had his finest ATP Masters Series season in 2005, claiming titles at Indian Wells, Miami, Hamburg, and Cincinnati. The next year, he repeated his feat of winning four titles while also making his last performances in Monte Carlo and Rome.

Federer’s most successful run was in Cincinnati, where he has won in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, and 2015, for a total of seven titles.

ANDRE AGASSI

The eight-time Grand Slam winner had early success in the ATP Masters Series with 17 titles. He ranks among players with most Masters 1000 titles

He was the first person to win only the second official Masters tournament in history (1990 Miami Open). He was only 19 years old when he won the tournament by beating Stefan Edberg in the finals.

Although Agassi had early success, he had to wait over two and a half years before winning his second major tournament. In 1995 and 2002, he won three Masters 1000 tournaments each year, and those were his best seasons. His most consistent success came in Miami, where he took first place six times between 1990 and 2003.

Until a series of injuries beginning 2017 derailed his career, the former world No.1 ranked among players with most masters 1000 titles

In 2008, Murray won his first Masters tournament in Cincinnati and then went on to win his second tournament in Shanghai. He won the Chinese Masters 1000 four times – in 2008, 2010, 2011, and 2016.

He had his best season on the ATP tour at the Masters 1000 level in 2016 making five finals and winning three of them. This string of victories began in Madrid and continued through Rome, Cincinnati, Shanghai, and Paris.

As a result, the British player’s performance in the capital of France propelled him to the top of the rankings for the first time in his career. Furthermore, this was his 14^th ATP Masters 1000 championship.
