Professional National Basketball Association (NBA) player Emmanuel Mudiay, born in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has joined global talent agency Celebrity Services Africa (CSA).
The agency made the announcement on Thursday, saying it would support Mudiay with social media, public relations, media engagements and strategic brand partnerships. The focus would also be given to “meaningful Pan-African awareness”.
Mudiay sought asylum in the United States from the then war-torn Zaire when he was five-years-old. He grew up in Texas and was one of the country’s top high school recruits.
“I am very excited to be working with CSA Global. At this very important stage of my career as a professional athlete it is important for me to leverage the opportunities I have, to be able to change people’s lives for the better and bring attention to issues that need support,” he said.
Mudiay played at SMU Mustangs men’s basketball but later decided to join the Guangdong Southern Tigers club in China.
After one injury-shortened season overseas, he was selected by the Nuggets with the number seven overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. He spent his first three NBA seasons with the Nuggets and the past two with the Knicks.
He averaged a career-best 14.8 points on 44.6%, shooting over 59 games (42 starts) last season. He currently plays for Utah Jazz as the number eight-point guard.
